She might not have been paying close attention to company matters, but that didn’t mean she was completely uninformed.
Clifford didn’t answer her question. Instead, he looked at Latisha. “Latisha, you can go.”
Latisha nodded and quickly left the office.
Once outside, she couldn’t resist a glance back at the closed door before turning away.
Ziven passed by and noticed her dejected expression. “Mrs. Lambert, is everything alright?”
She looked up at him, hesitating for a moment before signing, *Can we talk somewhere else?*
Ziven instinctively glanced toward the office door, then nodded and led her to an empty conference room.
“Mrs. Lambert, what did you want to talk about?”
Latisha took a moment, scanning the room to make sure they were alone before signing, *I just saw Ms. Madison.*
“Oh,” Ziven said. “Are you asking about Ms. Madison?”
Latisha nodded slightly.
“I don’t know much, to be honest,” Ziven admitted. “Ms. Madison was already working with Mr. Lambert when I joined the company. I heard they were classmates in college, but I can’t say if that’s true or not.”
He then added reassuringly, “Mrs. Lambert, you don’t need to worry. If there was anything between them, it would have happened long ago. Why would it happen now?”
But that wasn’t what Latisha wanted to know. She wanted to ask if he also saw the resemblance between Selah and Yesenia.
How could she even ask such a question? If it was just her imagination, she would sound like she was spreading malicious rumors.
She sighed and gave up. It was probably just her overthinking things.
She signed, *Thank you, Ziven. That’s all.*
Ziven stood. “I’ll get back to work then.”
But before he left, he offered one last piece of advice. “Mrs. Lambert, please don’t overthink things. You are the most important person in Mr. Lambert’s life.”
Thorin could see she was trying to scream but couldn’t make a sound. The sight seemed to excite him even more. His hand squeezed her buttocks hard, and a wave of shame and humiliation washed over her, her face burning red.
“So you really are a mute?” he said, his voice thick with excitement.
In a fit of rage and disgust, Latisha raised her free hand and slapped him across the face.
Crack!
The sharp sound echoed in the small room.
Thorin, caught off guard, staggered back, a red handprint already forming on his cheek. His expression twisted into a furious scowl.
“You bitch, you dare hit me?”
She struggled to push him away, but he grabbed her and slammed her against the door. Her forehead hit the doorframe with a dull thud, and the world swam before her eyes.
Thorin pinned her from behind, trapping her arms as he buried his face in her neck, inhaling deeply. Her struggles only seemed to fuel his excitement.
