The Day Silence Spoke novel Chapter 140

Clifford stopped and turned to face Zadok, his gaze sharp enough to pierce through steel.

Zadok met his stare without flinching, knowing he was speaking the truth.

“Is that so?” Clifford murmured thoughtfully, a cold, dismissive laugh escaping his lips.

“Yes. That is the full extent of our relationship.”

Clifford looked away, his gaze settling on the iron cages faintly visible in the distance. “You’re a smart man, Zadok. There are some cases you shouldn’t take. It’s best to avoid getting burned.”

Zadok was confused. “The case of the elderly woman is a simple domestic dispute. I don’t see why I shouldn’t have taken it.”

“It seems you don’t understand what I’m saying.” Clifford sat on a nearby bench, crossed his legs, and watched Zadok with an unnerving calm.

Zadok was still trying to piece it together, not knowing the full story between Latisha and Clifford.

Suddenly, a massive wolfhound burst from the trees, its fur glinting in the sun, and charged at Zadok, barking ferociously.

Zadok froze, his mind blank with shock.

In an instant, the dog was upon him, its jaws open, ready to tear into his leg.

“Eric!”

At Clifford’s command, the dog skidded to a halt, stopping just inches from Zadok, its tongue lolling out, saliva dripping from its mouth.

Zadok’s face was ashen.

“Come.”

But Ziven was instructed to give him a tour anyway. As Zadok saw the other “pets” Clifford kept, only one word came to mind: audacious.

It was pure, audacious intimidation. A tour for any normal person would have left them terrified. The animals’ eyes glowed with an unnatural red glint. The phrase “ready to eat you alive” was no longer a metaphor; these creatures were clearly trained killers. If a man were thrown into one of those enclosures, not even a single bone would remain.

The message was crystal clear: he was lucky to be walking out of here today. But if he wasn’t careful, next time, he might not be so fortunate.

...

Latisha sat on the sofa, her heart pounding with anxiety. She didn’t know what Clifford would do to Zadok. Nikita and Mrs. Dashiell were stark warnings. Mrs. Dashiell had done nothing wrong, yet Clifford had still targeted her.

Would Zadok also…

Just as the thought crossed her mind, the bodyguards at the door spoke in unison: “Mr. Lambert.”
