The Day Silence Spoke novel Chapter 156

Her phone was sitting on the table.

Worried about Nikita, she didn’t waste time trying to figure out Santino’s game. She grabbed the phone, opened the door, and rushed out.

She was in a high-rise apartment building, on the top floor. She took the elevator down to the ground level, but there was no sign of Nikita.

A thought struck her, and she got back in the elevator and went to the underground parking garage. The moment the doors opened, she saw it: a black sedan parked in the distance, its four hazard lights flashing.

She cautiously approached the car and saw someone inside. It was Nikita, bound and gagged, a blindfold over her eyes.

Latisha yanked open the car door and jumped in. Nikita heard the noise and started making muffled, angry sounds.

Latisha pulled the blindfold from her face. Nikita stared at her, too shocked to even struggle. Then Latisha quickly untied the ropes on her hands. The moment she was free, Nikita ripped the tape from her mouth.

“Latisha? How are you here?”

Latisha leaned down to untie her feet before looking up. *What happened?* she signed.

Nikita frowned, trying to piece it together. “I got an anonymous text late the other night. It said you were in danger, that you would die if I didn’t come. I figured it was worth checking out, just in case. When I got to your house, I found you in the storage closet. You were unconscious.”

Latisha shook her head.

*I fell,* she signed. *I don't know who the kidnapper was. He messaged me and told me you were down here.*

“That’s so weird. What does this person want?”

Latisha looked at her friend, her heart heavy. No matter what Santino wanted, if they went back now, Clifford would destroy Nikita.

She gripped Nikita’s hand, her expression serious. *Nikita,* she signed slowly, *let’s leave Etherea City.*
