The doctor stood there with his medical bag, offering a professional smile. “Good afternoon, Mrs. Lambert. How have you been feeling?”
Latisha managed a faint smile but couldn’t answer. The doctor hadn’t expected one; it was just a polite formality. He followed her inside, and she sat on the sofa, extending her wrist for him to take her pulse.
The doctor’s smile slowly vanished as he concentrated. He looked up at her, his expression troubled.
“How… is it worse than last time?”
Latisha just stared at him, her lips pressed together.
The doctor seemed at a loss. “Mrs. Lambert, you need to find a way to be happier,” he urged gently. “And… you must avoid strenuous activity. Your body hasn’t recovered its vital energy yet.”
He phrased it delicately, but Latisha understood. A flush crept up her neck, and she slowly withdrew her hand.
“My mentor is a renowned physician with old-school methods,” the doctor continued, “and he has a close relationship with the Lambert family. I am his most promising student. You can trust what I’m telling you.”
Latisha typed on her phone: *I know. Thank you.*
The doctor sighed. “Alright… perhaps I should prescribe some restorative medicine?”
She shook her head: *No, thank you.*
An awkward silence fell.
The doctor, unsure of what else to say, made a mental note to find an opportunity to speak with Mr. Lambert. Seeing Latisha so devoid of spirit week after week was starting to weigh on his conscience.
...
Renata’s face fell. “Are you kidding me? These are shares in the Lambert Group! And you’re only offering ten billion?”
The man held up a hand to calm her. “Ms. Lambert, you’re right, these are Lambert Group shares, and they are incredibly valuable. But that’s the problem—they have a price, but no market. Even for me to acquire a stake this size, I’ll have to bring in several partners. How many companies do you know that have ten billion in liquid cash just lying around?”
He continued, “If you don’t believe me, feel free to shop around. You’ll find plenty of interested parties, but very few who can actually close the deal. It’s not just about the capital; there are countless logistical issues to resolve afterward. It’s a very complex transaction.”
Renata opened her mouth but didn’t know what to say. She didn’t understand the intricacies of finance, and his explanation, though baffling, sounded plausible. Besides, Clifford had brought him. She had no reason not to trust his judgment.
“Is ten billion the best you can do?”
The man thought for a moment. “I could go up to twelve billion. That’s my absolute best offer. Ms. Lambert, if you don’t trust me, you must trust Mr. Lambert. If you tried to find a buyer on your own, would you really accept a higher offer from a stranger?”
