Nikita let out a bitter laugh. "Mr. Taylor, did you really think I was bored enough to fight with Yesenia over some stupid commercial?"
A cold sweat broke out on Mr. Taylor's forehead. He finally understood. This wasn't about a role; it was about pride.
The way everyone looked at Yesenia shifted again. The mix of pity and scorn in their eyes made her feel like her lungs would burst.
She slammed her hands on the table and pointed a trembling finger at Nikita. "Are you insane? Is Latisha your mother or something? Why are you so obsessed with helping her? What do you get out of targeting me?"
"Because I feel like it!" Nikita shot back. "Her own husband won't stand up for her, so who else will? Not everyone gets weak in the knees at the sight of a man. You shamelessly seduce another woman's husband and then flaunt it in front of his wife. Latisha just doesn't have skin as thick as yours."
"You... you!" Yesenia was so enraged she lunged at Nikita, ready to fight.
Fortunately, people in the room pulled them apart.
"Mr. Lambert is here!" someone shouted.
The office fell silent. All eyes turned to the door, where Clifford stood, dressed impeccably in a suit. His hands were in his pockets, and his expression was cold as he surveyed the chaos. His gaze swept across the room, past Yesenia and Nikita, finally landing on Latisha.
The moment their eyes met, Latisha quickly looked down.
Yesenia, seeing him, rushed over like he was her savior, dragging her injured foot behind her.
"Clifford, you're finally here! This woman, Nikita, is always bullying me!"
Nikita rolled her eyes in disgust. "Can you stop acting like a cat in heat? It's embarrassing."
Mr. Taylor, snapping out of his shock, hurried forward. "Mr. Lambert, what a surprise. Please, come in."
Clifford's eyes darkened, his tone turning frigid. "And who are you to her?"
"It doesn't matter who I am. At least I'm better than a useless decoration of a husband! At least I wouldn't let her be humiliated in front of everyone!"
Clifford actually smiled, a cold, humorless expression. "Is this what the Staffords teach their children? To meddle in other people's family affairs? If you really didn't want her to be hurt, you wouldn't have brought her here in the first place. Did you honestly think this would change anything?"
Nikita flinched. He was right. She knew Clifford's attitude toward Latisha, yet she had insisted on fighting for her, only to make Latisha the butt of everyone's jokes. Clifford was to blame, but she was just as responsible for pushing the situation, knowing how it would end.
"You're right," Nikita admitted, her voice hollow. "I overestimated your feelings for her. This is my fault."
Just then, Killian Stafford arrived. He looked out of breath, as if he'd run up the stairs. He walked straight to Nikita.
"Nikita, are you causing trouble again? Come home with me, now!" He grabbed her arm, but she wouldn't budge.
