The Day Silence Spoke novel Chapter 303

"Then what is it?" Wallace’s gaze shifted subtly. "After everything you've done, how do you expect me to treat you?"

Though they spoke calmly, the air was thick with an invisible tension. It lacked the warmth of a father-son relationship, but also the sharp edge of animosity between enemies. The atmosphere was strange.

"You think you've been good to me?" Clifford asked.

"What, you think I've mistreated you all these years? I gave you shares, handed the company over to you. And how did you repay me?"

At that, Clifford let out a faint, mocking laugh. "Shares? When Grandpa was still around, if not for silencing him, would you have ever distributed those shares? You only did it to shut him up. Besides, that thirty percent you 'gave away' didn't come from your own holdings, did it?"

Wallace's face changed. Clifford was right. When the shares were distributed, they hadn't yet been in Wallace's possession. Darby had already retired and didn't want to manage things anymore, so he left it to Wallace. Darby's intention had been for Clifford to take his place, but Wallace had vetoed the idea, arguing that Clifford was too young. So, Clifford was made CEO to gain experience, while Wallace became the Chairman behind the scenes. As for the shares, Wallace didn't want Clifford to have so much, so he made a show of treating all his children equally. To this day, people still praised him for being a good father.

No one knew the truth. He had no idea how Clifford had found out.

"You spun off the international subsidiary and gave it to Greyson Lambert," Clifford continued. "If you hadn't pretended to be impartial back then, how would you have explained that? As for handing the company to me... Dad, did you do it willingly, or were there other reasons?"

Wallace was no longer calm. He stared at Clifford, stunned. "How do you know all this?"

"Is it so hard to find out?" Clifford countered. "So, I don't understand. What is your goal in all this?"

Greyson was his illegitimate son. No matter how capable he was, it didn't make sense for Wallace to go to such lengths for him.
