The Day Silence Spoke novel Chapter 58

Clifford threw Latisha onto the sofa. The rage he had suppressed in front of Nikita now erupted.

She instinctively curled over, protecting her stomach.

The movement caught his eye, and something flickered in his gaze. He leaned over her, his hand closing around her throat.

“Why do you insist on ignoring everything I say?” he hissed.

“You want to travel the world with her? Ha. Latisha, has it really been twenty years? And I still haven’t tamed you?”

Her eyelashes fluttered. How did he know everything?

Then she remembered. When she woke up that morning, her phone had been fully charged.

He had done something to her phone. No wonder he had shown up at just the right moment.

It was getting hard to breathe. Her face flushed, and she stared up at the man looming over her, her eyes widening as tears began to well.

She had always had a naturally innocent face. It wasn't cute; her features were too sharp for that. The first impression she gave was one of profound innocence, especially her expressive eyes. When she looked at someone, it was with an intensity that felt both deeply personal and universally compassionate.

Her beauty was ethereal, almost unreal. Clifford had often struggled to describe it, but the word ‘elf’ was the closest he could get. She was like a creature from an ancient epic, distant and intangible.

It was why, whenever he looked into those eyes, his anger would always dissipate. It was also why he constantly felt that if she were to walk down the street alone, someone would snatch her away, or that a strong gust of wind might simply carry her off.

Suddenly, Clifford laughed. The anger vanished as quickly as it had come, but to Latisha, his smile was more terrifying than his rage.

She wondered if Nikita was hurt.

The thought of Nikita brought Clifford’s chilling words back to her. She scrambled for her phone. But then she remembered—he had tampered with it. Her fingers froze over the screen.

In the end, she gave up, tossing the phone onto the cushion beside her and covering her eyes with her hand. Clifford had never shown her his cruel side before. She had no idea what he was capable of, what he might do to Nikita.

She found out that night. The news came on the television. Nikita had been in an accident while street racing.

Latisha stared at the pixelated images from the scene, her body trembling uncontrollably. Nikita and a group of other rich kids had been racing. On the final stretch, her car had plowed directly into a crowd of spectators.

Nikita… she had killed people.
