The Devil's Betrothed novel Chapter 769

Chapter 769: Salivating Mouth

Erin, shocked, looked at her brother at the way he worded it. ’Taking advantage of her?’ Lucian was not that kind of person. He was the most decent man- the true definition of a gentleman- one could find in this world.

"Brother, he didn’t," she said immediately, before Euron could have any bad opinion of Lucian.

"Euron," Rowan said, "Do you think any man can ever take advantage of her...." he stopped deliberately, looking at his sister with a teasing look. "...unless our sister wants it as well?"

Euron looked back at Erin, as he raised a brow. "Did you two?"

Erin hesitantly took a step back and nodded lightly, words unable to leave her mouth. After all, Euron was her elder brother and more protective of her like a father.

"What are you all talking about?" Just then Lord Ahren arrived there.

Erin felt her heart skip a beat, and heard Euron answer, "Just a usual talk between us siblings, father."

Erin felt relieved and saw her father coming towards her. She composed herself and offered her father a smile. She stepped ahead to greet him. Lord Ahren offered a pleasant smile, "So, my daughter is going to be a lady of the east?"

Erin turned shy to hear it and nodded. Lord Ahren patted her head as he smiled in delight. "My daughter deserves everything best, but at the same time, I know you are the perfect lady for this estate and will help Lucian while standing by his side."

"I will, father," she assured.

Just then, Lady Ahren came to the drawing room as well. Now she could finally meet her daughter in peace. Lady Ahren hugged her daughter, relishing her presence and finally meeting her after long.

The mother and daughter talked for a while as they all settled in the drawing room.

"Erin, where have you been staying? You didn’t stay here in the guest mansion like Rowan and Rafal," Lady Rainier asked.

Erin didn’t think about it before as she was accustomed to living at Rainier and it felt entirely normal to her, but now her mother asked, she realised what it was.

"I...am staying at Rainier..." she answered hesitantly.

Lady Ahren, though a thoughtful mother, in the end she was a noble lady raised with strong rules and following them strictly all her life.

"At Rainiers?" lady Ahren asked in a slightly strict voice.

Erin looked at Rowan for help, only to see him speak, "Mother, not just at Rainiers but she has already taken the place of the lady of the estate and is living in the chamber meant for the lady, the chamber close to the Lord’s."

Hearing it, Erin offered a cold glare to her brother, who in return offered her playful smirk and said, "How could I take our mother’s right to discipline her daughter for the last time. After this you would be the lady of Rainier, and no one would dare discipline you." He looked at his mother, "Please continue. It’s been a while since I saw my sister being disciplined."

Erin gritted her teeth, but controlled her anger, waiting to get an earful from her mother.

"You are not married to Lucian yet and you are already staying there?" Lady Ahren spoke with a strict tone, "That won’t do. You are staying here with us until the day of the wedding, and you are not allowed to be with Lucian alone. There are so many noble family guests here and I want you to follow the rules, understand?"

Erin lowered her head and nodded silently.

Rowan chuckled softly, which made Erin glare at him, wanting to knock her brother for the first time in her life.

"I will ask servant to bring your things here and arrange a room for you to stay," Lady Ahren declared.

Erin nodded once more and said, "I want to personally inform it to Lucian’s mother. It won’t look good if I leave without a word."

Seeing it, Lady Ahren looked at her son, offering him a questioning gaze to which Rowan shrugged his shoulder lightly and said, "We need to call for a physician it seems."

Lady Ahren’s expressions soured while Lord Ahren, who didn’t know what was going on, ordered in a worry, "Then what are you waiting for. Call for the physician."

Lady Ahren spoke, "Rafal, take Erin to my room to rest."

Erin looked at her mother, "But I am fine, and I am yet to talk to them...."

Lady Ahren maintained her composure and said, "Don’t worry. I will ask them to be here. First, do as I say."

Erin nodded quietly and went to her mother’s room with Rafal.

Lady Ahren then turned to Euron, "Call for Lucian and his parents here and also tell them to arrange a physician. Keep it discreet."

Euron nodded and left while Lord Ahren asked his wife, "Why are you so serious?"

Instead of answering him, Lady Ahren looked at Rowan, "You were here with her. This is how you took care of your sister?"

"Mother, calm down," he said, "I understand your worry, but now things have happened, just take it calmly. Everything will be alright."

"If other nobles know about it, what would they think about Erin? A noble lady should follow the rules, or it can tarnish her image forever. What would be the difference between noble and commoner woman? It’s not good to be a topic of gossip and a simple thing can make one lose the respect they deserve. I can’t allow my daughter to go through it. We have to keep it a secret."

Lord Ahren finally understood and sided with his wife. "You young people take things lightly, but we know how nobility works. I can’t let my daughter to be ridiculed by anyone even in their minds. Do as your mother says."

Rowan nodded, as he could understand his parents’ worry.
