“I’ve heard in some dungeons, NPCs disguise themselves as players to trick everyone into wiping. Right now, I reasonably suspect you’re one of those NPCs.”

The younger girl didn’t say anything, but her eyes were full of the same wariness and hatred. Quietly, she slipped a hand into her backpack like she was reaching for a weapon.

To be honest, listening to the tall guy’s line of reasoning, I couldn’t entirely rule out the NPC possibility either.

The girl pulled a gun out of her bag and pointed it at my head with a dead expression. Her whole vibe turned cold and hard, couldn’t have been farther from the fragile, obedient act she’d pulled earlier.

“From now on, you answer my questions,” she said, voice low.

“First question: what role are you playing in this dungeon? And what is your relationship with the Boss?”

“That’s two questions.” I muttered.

She only tightened her finger on the trigger. I raised my hands fast.

“Don’t shoot, I’ll talk. I’ll talk.” My eyes darted, searching for anything.

“Okay, actually… I’m his wife.”

She snorted like I’d suggested she was an idiot, then aimed the gun like she was about to fire. I scrambled to keep talking.

“Think about it, haven’t most of the deaths involved people connected to me? The buzz–cut guy shoved me; Cheryl betrayed me; Pete led the clique that pushed me aside and said I’d be the first to die. And the yellow–haired guy who died at the start? When we first met, he snuck a pinch of my butt.”
