On the way back, Scarlett Jennings pinched that half-pill, first examining it closely and then bringing it to her nose to smell.
Just when Samuel Chalmers thought she was going to try it herself, he saw Scarlett put the pill back into the small transparent plastic bottle, and then took out her phone to start sending messages.
Samuel had a hunch that she wanted to figure out the components of the drug, so he said,
"The Chalmers Corporation has a dedicated research institute. If you want to know the components of this drug, you can give it to me."
Scarlett was engrossed in sending messages and responded instinctively,
"You can’t do it."
Samuel: ...
Realizing she had been a little too blunt, Scarlett finally stopped her actions, turned her head, and explained seriously,
"This pill has demon energy components. They probably can’t be detected through normal means."
To analyze the source of this demon energy, Scarlett estimated it would require help from a Master of the Crimson Path.
For such matters, she would usually go directly to Ivan.
He had all sorts of connections.
Listening to Scarlett’s explanation, Samuel’s expression didn’t change, and he spoke in a calm voice,
"If it can’t be detected through normal methods, then we’ll use abnormal ones. Coincidentally, I recently made the acquaintance of a Master of the Crimson Path who could help you."
Scarlett looked at Samuel with some surprise and subconsciously blurted out,
"Besides me, you have dealings with other Masters?"
As soon as she said it, she realized her reaction was quite exaggerated.
Most wealthy families had a firm belief in geomancy, so it wasn’t particularly strange for Samuel to have one or two genuinely skilled masters around him.
Just as she was about to backtrack, she heard Samuel say,
"After all, when your fiancée belongs to the Mystical Sect, it’s not good to know nothing about it."
There was an understated tone in Samuel’s words, so natural was his mention of ’fiancée’ that Scarlett felt a bit bewildered, swept by a subtle sensation, unsure of how to respond for a moment,
"Is that so..."
She thought for a moment and suddenly handed over the plastic bottle with the half-pill inside.
"Then I’ll leave the analysis of the demon energy in the pill to you."
Seeing her hand over the only "clue" to him without hesitation, Samuel looked at her, his gaze deepening slightly,
"You trust me?"
Meeting his gaze, Scarlett nodded, "You said so yourself, of course I believe you."
At worst, it was just the loss of half a pill.
If this clue was gone, she could always find others.
It was rare for Samuel to actively request participation; she had to let him have some sense of involvement.
Scarlett didn’t realize that her current mentality was surprisingly similar to when she used two little papermen dancing to coax him.
Samuel, once again being coaxed: ...
The two of them returned to where they were staying, and Samuel saw her home, then went upstairs, and called Simon, who hadn’t yet returned to the Capital Metropolitan, handing him the half-pill.
"Get an analysis report of this pill."
Simon took the plastic bottle, his devilish face twisted with some annoyance.
What was going on with the boss?
The day before yesterday, he rushed back to Sea City, forcing Simon to reveal his true form to bring him back, and now he wanted him to absorb fireworks smoke for disposal.
The so-called compensation was supposed to allow him to vacation for a few days in Sea City.
But now he had been given a strange task!
Dumping the pill out of the bottle, he sniffed it carefully and then disdainfully threw it back into the bottle.
"This smells like the scent of Deershu, hmm... there seems to be some of the little Ear Mouse’s too."
He couldn’t help but look at Samuel,
Since when did such little demon beasts dare to show up in front of this man?
