Night falls on the Jennings Family estate.
Adam Jennings sits on the sofa in Lucas Jennings’ room, watching him climb into bed, ready to sleep, and can’t help saying,
"You’re just going to sleep?"
Lucas turns his head to look at Adam, "What else?"
Seeing Adam staring at him, Lucas simply sits on the bed and says,
"My sister already said she’d help you catch that thief, don’t worry. But bro, are you really planning to sleep with me tonight?"
"What else?" Adam glances at him.
Originally thinking it was just some insider thief, he wasn’t worried about sleeping inside even if that’s the case.
But knowing there’s something strange in the house, he no longer dared to take the risk.
Although he could just sleep in any guest room, he felt that nowhere seemed as safe as Scarlett Jennings’ room.
Sadly, Scarlett is a girl; otherwise, he would squeeze into her room even if it meant sleeping on the floor.
Staying with Lucas is a second-best choice.
After all, Lucas’ room is directly below Scarlett’s. If something really happens, she’d sense it too.
Hearing Adam’s self-righteous tone, Lucas lies down and pulls up the covers, still muttering,
"You have other brothers, your brother’s on the third floor, yet you insist on squeezing in with me..."
Adam throws him a sideways glance,
"Why do you talk so much?"
Lucas pouts, lightly hums, "Taking up my room and complaining I talk too much. Lights off!"
The voice-activated lights in the room turn off in response, and the room instantly plunges into darkness.
After just a second, Adam turns them back on again.
"I’m not asleep yet, why turn off the light, leave it on."
Lucas almost laughs in exasperation at his words, just about to sit up to scold him when Adam, self-absorbed, asks,
"Is Scarlett asleep too? Should we send her a message telling her not to sleep too deeply tonight?"
Lucas: ...
"Brother Adam, trust me, if you dare message her to stay awake, not only will you be permanently blocked, but she won’t help you with the thief issue either."
Lucas spoke with certainty.
Being Scarlett’s little lackey, Lucas surely understands Scarlett better than anyone. Since he said so, Adam... had no choice but to give up this idea.
...
Three in the morning.
Adam and Lucas are bundled together in sleep.
The entire villa is enveloped in silence, but if you listen closely, there’s a faint noise of something moving on the exterior wall outside the window.
Outside the wall.
The system turtle is laboriously moving up the wall cavity with its limbs.
Having been commanding this body, it’s been crawling for over six hours.
Thankfully, it’s almost there.
The system’s target is the window ledge of Adam Jennings’ room.
It wasn’t until Adam poked it today that it learned Scarlett Jennings had given that Benedict Jade to this fool Adam.
During the days it was inside Azura Loomis’ body, it had interacted with Adam Jennings quite a bit.
In the system’s view, Adam is just an easily tricked fool.
Yet this fool gets such a prized thing from Scarlett Jennings.
That’s a waste!
Rather than letting such a fool waste it, it figured it might as well secretly take it for itself.
With this thought, the system finally perseveres and climbs to the window ledge of Adam’s room.
Luckily, one of the windows in Adam’s room is open.
The system labors its way over, and as it stretches its head, ready to squeeze through the window gap, unexpectedly it senses a familiar and longed-for aura.
Moreover, the aura is very close!
The system excitedly moves its limbs, and with difficulty, the whole turtle squeezes through the window, feeling that the aura, initially some distance away, suddenly becomes within reach.
The system turtle’s head freezes, instinctively looks up, and sees a completely green Benedict Jade looking down at it.
