After many years, she called him brother again, but it was under such circumstances.
Aaron Hearne’s chest felt slightly heavy, yet his expression remained unchanged.
"Since you know, you better protect it well."
With that, he lifted his leg to leave, and Magnolia Hearne watched his back, suddenly saying,
"I don’t want those things you brought. I have the dowry my father left me; I don’t need the family’s false pretense of purchasing."
She had already been betrayed by him once and wouldn’t let Scarlett follow the same path as her.
Magnolia Hearne said,
"When you leave, remember to take those things away with you."
Aaron Hearne paused for a moment, turned his head to look at her, his voice cold,
"Okay."
He exited the room, striding swiftly.
His cold, stern face showed no expression, and with each step, a silent and dangerous aura emanated from under his feet.
He walked down the long corridor, restraining the demon energy that clung to him.
His gaze suddenly moved ahead toward the garden, where a person stood.
Seeing him approach, the person came forward, calling him, "Aaron Hearne."
With a chilly female voice, it was a simple greeting, yet the voice inexplicably carried a joy even she hadn’t noticed.
"I didn’t expect, you are still Scarlett Jennings’ uncle."
No wonder she was asked to deliver a birthday gift to her before.
The person was Oliver White.
Ever since Aaron Hearne suddenly appeared at the Jennings Family villa, she had planned to come forward and greet him.
But his gaze never fell on her, and besides, she could tell he and Mrs. Jiang were not ordinary siblings.
She knew this person never liked others to meddle in his private matters. Even though she could tell he was quite unhappy now, she didn’t ask, merely said,
"Long time no see, would you like to have a drink together?"
Oliver White doesn’t enjoy wasting time on social engagements, but when it’s with the person in front of her, it’s different.
Aaron Hearne glanced at her after hearing that, then said in a deep voice,
"No, I’m leaving."
He spoke as he was about to walk away, but after taking two steps, he paused, as if recalling something, pulled out a small velvety box from his pocket, and directly tossed it to Oliver White,
"This is for you."
Oliver White was stunned, instinctively catching the box, wanted to inquire further, but the person had already walked away with his long strides.
She opened the box, which was palm-sized, and inside lay a small nine-tailed fox porcelain piece, no bigger than a thumb.
Due to its small size, the fox appeared rounded and adorable.
Turning the nine-tailed fox, Oliver White noticed the number nine inscribed on the bottom, somewhat surprised,
"Could this be something he made himself?"
Oliver White said so, yet didn’t believe it was specially made for her.
She wasn’t fond of foxes either.
She casually played with the small fox in her hand, not knowing how much time passed, before seeing Magnolia Hearne slowly approaching from the end of the corridor.
Oliver White looked at the small fox in her hand, reluctantly grasped it, then approached to hand over both the fox and the box to her,
"Your brother left it, it should be for you?"
Magnolia Hearne didn’t think after she said what she did, Aaron Hearne would leave anything for her.
Yet upon sensing the familiar aura on the box, she still received it from Oliver White.
When she saw the nine-tailed fox porcelain piece inside, she was slightly taken aback, but soon silently put the box away, saying to Oliver White,
"Thank you."
She paused for a moment, suddenly looked at Oliver White, and asked her,
"I heard from Scarlett that you and my brother are friends?"
