He’s here.
These three words made Scarlett Jennings’ heart involuntarily race.
She felt her mind go blank initially, as if surrounded by countless emotions, then she abruptly looked around, her eyes unusually eager.
She thought he would appear suddenly in some nearby location, just like every time before.
With his whole being enveloped in golden light, he was always easy for her to spot.
But this time, he was not there.
Apart from the two little papermen in front of her, she saw no trace of Samuel Chalmers’ golden light.
Scarlett Jennings believed Araminta Gold wouldn’t lie to her.
Her mother had also said that he hadn’t disappeared completely, but had returned to his original form and fallen into a deep sleep again.
And what she had been waiting for was his awakening, for him to come back and find her.
Now he was awake, and he had come.
But he hadn’t come to find her.
An inexplicable unease briefly flickered in her heart, which she quickly suppressed.
Scarlett Jennings thought, it didn’t matter.
If he didn’t come to find her, she could go and find him herself.
All she needed was to determine his location.
Thinking this, she promptly picked up Araminta Gold,
"Araminta Gold, take me to him."
Araminta Gold dropped the twig it was holding and nodded at her.
That was why it had come to find her.
It was only caught by a mischievous fox halfway.
Scarlett Jennings showed a fleeting smile, then waved at the system.
Shellback immediately carried a suitcase and flew to her side.
Seeing Scarlett Jennings about to leave with her demon pet and two little papermen, Hannah Hearne couldn’t help but call out,
"Scarlett Jennings! Aren’t you going to report to the Special Demon Squad?"
After working so hard to defeat her, she was just going to leave?
Scarlett Jennings was not in the mood to report now, she waved a hand at Hannah,
"I’ll come back tomorrow!"
Saying this, she quickly walked towards the crowd of demons watching in the West District, calling out as she went, "Dashiell!"
Dashiell had been watching from the start and, upon seeing the familiar little paperman in her hand, his eyes filled with unspeakable excitement, seeming to want to ask but not daring to.
Scarlett Jennings smiled at him, then waved,
"Let’s go."
To find Samuel Chalmers.
Dashiell immediately followed her quickly towards the courtyard gate, while Hannah Hearne and ten others behind watched with cold indifference for a long moment, and then called out to Scarlett Jennings’ departing figure,
"Tomorrow, the one fighting you won’t be me!"
If she didn’t enter the Special Demon Squad, the initiation wouldn’t count.
She’d have to fight again tomorrow.
It was as if Scarlett Jennings heard, and yet as if she didn’t. Her steps didn’t slow as she left with her group, and shortly after, those watching only saw a flood dragon with someone on its back suddenly soar up outside the academy gate, disappearing into the clouds in an instant.
Chase Russell stared dumbfounded as the two just left, it took a long moment for him to react,
"Academy rules state, no transforming and flying randomly!"
Now what, not only did she skip class openly, but also violated the school rules, while the demon masters were watching!
Then a voice mumbled beside him,
"I saw them, they transformed outside the academy gate, not violating school rules."
Chase Russell heaved a sigh of relief, well that was okay.
He’s doomed if Scarlett Jennings was crushed, he’d have to face Samuel Chalmers’s wrath!
Dashiell had been cultivating his demonic power at the academy for the past three months, and his speed had markedly improved from before, taking barely three seconds to hit the ground level, only to discover another shocking fact.
That was—
Scarlett Jennings hadn’t fallen.
She, she vanished!
...
Meanwhile, Scarlett Jennings was rapidly plummeting downwards.
The instant before Dashiell hit the barrier, Scarlett Jennings had sensed its existence.
But she was too late to stop Dashiell.
Watching wide-eyed as Dashiell crashed against the barrier, she assumed she would follow, but unexpectedly, Dashiell was halted outside the barrier, whereas she passed right through without warning.
Though she wasn’t obstructed by the barrier, losing Dashiell’s aerial support left Scarlett Jennings uncontrollably plummeting through the air.
Initially startled, Scarlett Jennings soon regained her calm.
"Heaven and earth clarity, merging as one, by the Imperial Decree... gentle breeze come!"
With a clear tone, a gentle breeze swiftly caught Scarlett Jennings, slowing her precipitous descent, gradually guiding her towards the golden light beneath.
Despite being in May, the ground beneath was covered in what belonged to the deep autumn—golden yellow.
Covered entirely in ginkgo leaves.
The breeze beneath Scarlett Jennings stirred the layers of fallen leaves, the golden ginkgo leaves swirling around her as she landed.
Through the swirling gold umbrella of leaves, Scarlett Jennings finally saw clearly that familiar golden light.
Samuel Chalmers...
He stood there with his back to her under the ancient and massive ginkgo tree, his golden light seemingly enveloping the world.
And then, amidst that brilliant golden glow, he slowly turned to look at her...
