Chapter 177 A Web of Lies

Christian strolled in with his usual flamboyance–flashy, though not quite trendy, in his deep V–neck suit shirt that exposed just enough of a delicate silver collarbone chain to flaunt his roguish charm. He looked more like a strutting model than a corporate heir, and his narrow eyes held an air of playful indifference.
“Mr. Christian,” one of the bodyguards stepped forward. “Ms. Naomi was bullied. She’s still in the classroom crying.”
Christian frowned. “Who dared lay a finger on my sister? Weren’t you supposed to be watching her?”
“We were, sir. But… it was Ms. Naomi who hit first.”
The bodyguards lowered their heads, clearly uneasy.
“Naomi hit first?” Christian blinked in surprise.
The Naomi he’d met days ago had seemed delicate and pitiful–how could she have been the one to start a fight?
He stepped into the classroom. Naomi sat there weeping, as though she’d suffered some great injustice.
“Naomi, what happened? Who did this to you?”
“Christian…” Naomi wiped her tears, revealing the clear outline of a man’s palm across her cheek.
Christian’s expression darkened immediately. No one had ever dared strike a member of the Sue family.
“Who hit you?” he demanded.
“It–it was Colton, Lewis, Henry, and Nolan!” Naomi rattled off all four names at once.
Christian didn’t recognize the first three, but the last one–Nolan–he knew. The Hayes family dominated more than eighty percent of Westbrook’s industries. They were one of the region’s true powerhouses.
“Four guys against one girl. How heroic,” Christian said, eyes cold.
Naomi tugged at his sleeve with teary eyes. “Christian, didn’t you say no one would ever bully me again?”
“I meant it,” he said, voice firm. “You’re the Sue family’s Ms. Cassandra. As long as we’re here, no one will touch you.”
“Then you have to help me get justice! They did all this for Eliza’s sake!”
Without hesitation, Naomi threw Eliza under the bus.
Christian had already investigated the Rivers family.
He raised a brow. “Eliza? Isn’t she your sister? What, she’s not treating you well?”
Naomi nodded fervently. “She’s always used being my sister as an excuse to bully me. Even stole my grades to get into Claire University. If you hadn’t found me, I wouldn’t have gotten to attend college at all!”

Christian’s expression darkened further.

He had known the Rivers family probably hadn’t treated Naomi well–but this? This was worse than he imagined.
“Don’t worry, Naomi. I’ll handle it.”
Turning to his bodyguards, he ordered, “Look into Eliza. See if she’s returned to the Rivers family. And contact the Gray family–I want to know exactly which punk laid a hand on my sister.”
Before the bodyguards could move, Naomi quickly added, “Eliza doesn’t live with us anymore! She moved
out.”
Christian frowned. “She moved out? Why?”
Naomi hadn’t prepared for that question. Thinking quickly, she scrambled for an answer. “She’s… rebellious. Never listened to our parents. As soon as she got into Claire University, she rushed to move out.”
Christian’s frown deepened. He wasn’t stupid. One lie might slip by–but stack a few together, and the cracks started to show.
Still, he didn’t confront her. Instead, he gave a tight smile. “Leave it to me. No one bullies my little sister and gets away with it.”
He left with his bodyguards, his face falling into a scowl the moment they reached the stairwell.
“Mr. Christian,” one of the guards asked cautiously. “Shall I teach this Eliza a lesson?”
