Halbert nodded. “We’re all adults. If you can’t see through something this simple, you’re an idiot. Elaine definitely knows. But she probably thinks it’s a good idea. Otherwise, why would she marry Nolan? You think she’s mentally ill? She knows, and she’s still willing to marry into the Hayes family?”

Eliza hadn’t expected it. Even knowing her enemy was right in front of her, Elaine still chose to marry him -she was even willing to die for him.

At the sound of the name Elaine, Eliza’s brows furrowed.

Sure enough, she saw Elaine walk in.

Today, she looked different from before. Her usually elegant face was pale from illness, giving her a delicate, fragile look–like a willow in the wind.

Eliza immediately placed her backpack on the chair. “Sorry, someone’s already sitting here.”

Her direct refusal made a trace of awkwardness flash across Elaine’s face. A nearby classmate, trying to ease the tension, patted the seat next to her and said, “Elaine, sit with me. No one’s here, and we can go to class together from now on.”

That classmate clearly wanted to become friends with Elaine.

Elaine smiled gratefully. “Thank you.”

Then she sat down.
