Chapter 528 Wendy’s Escape Plan

After Eliza and the others returned, the police had already determined the cause of death for the victims.
None of the bodies bore external injuries. The findings suggested they had been injected with
a virus.
The virus had penetrated the bone marrow, and traces of it could be extracted from the victims‘ bones.
Eliza and Nolan went to the police station to review the forensic report together. Jean accompanied them, and the moment she saw the findings, she became even more certain this was the work of people from Claire University’s medical school.
For years, the school had been conducting virus research. Officially, the experiments were limited to lab mice; human testing was strictly prohibited.
But they had been using real people as test subjects their graduate students carrying out experiments directly on human bodies, producing results that were far more “immediate” in their eyes.
Jean’s stomach turned.
Wendy had already told her that every medical school graduate followed her orders — even Ethan, the senior she had once deeply admired.
That meant those seniors had taken part in harming people, too. And they didn’t think they’d done anything wrong – they had worked hard to cover for the true culprit.
Eliza noticed Jean’s mood shift and said to Nolan, “You stay here and get more details. We’ll step outside.”
Nolan nodded.
Once outside, Jean grabbed Eliza’s arm. “Ms. Eliza, is there really no way to make Wendy pay? If there’s any way to catch her, I’ll do whatever it takes.”
Jean had once held the Claire University medical school in the highest regard. To her, it was the pinnacle for any medical student – a place where a lifetime would be devoted to saving
lives.
She had dreamed of becoming a good doctor.
Instead, she had found people using medicine to hurt others, to profit from it.
-someone who didn’t value human filled her with rage.
That there could be a monster like Wendy in the world life at all, caring only for money, status, and power

Eliza was silent for a moment. She wanted to arrest Wendy as much as Jean did. But Saint Corp was still abroad, and they didn’t know the extent of Wendy’s influence overseas. If they caught her only for someone else to take her place, things could become even more complicated.
For now, they couldn’t risk alerting her.
Jean read the complexity in Eliza’s silence. She wasn’t a naïve college girl “Sorry, I got carried away just now. Don’t take it to heart.”
–
she understood.
“I know you want the killer caught sooner. I do too. But this isn’t the best time to act.”
“I understand.” Jean nodded.
Just then, Eliza’s phone rang
—
Henry’s name flashed on the screen. If he was calling now, it
was almost certainly about Wendy.
She answered, and Henry’s voice came through. “I’ve found out Wendy booked a ticket under her ID. The flight’s tonight.”
“Tonight?”
She had just seen Wendy earlier tonight?
—
was she already planning to leave Westbrook for abroad
“Yes. The flight’s in an hour. My people are trying to stop her. Nolan already coordinated with customs, right?”
“Yes. She shouldn’t be able to get out.”
“Not necessarily.”
Henry knew his aunt well
—
if Wendy wanted something, she would make it happen. Leaving
the country was hardly a challenge for her.
“I think she’s already gotten word from inside the police that the bones showed something suspicious. She’s afraid it will lead back to her, so she’s heading overseas first. She’s a foreign
national Westbrook can’t touch her.”
–
“Wait… how do you know the test results are out?”
“If Nolan can know, so can I. And if I can know, then so can Wendy.”
A chill spread through Eliza
If that was true… then Wendy really was about to run.
Realizing the urgency, Eliza immediately had the driver take Jean back to the safe apartment she’d arranged for her. Then she went back into the police station to tell Nolan that Wendy
