Chapter 546 The Shadow Behind Wendy
The ingredients in the serum weren’t many, but the details revealed enough–inside, it contained stem cells.
It was said that stem cells could slow aging and prolong life.

“Wendy should be over forty by now,” Eliza said, “but she doesn’t look a day over thirty. At first I thought she just took exceptional care of herself, but now it seems she may have developed a serum that can slow aging. Who knows where she got the stem cells, but I bet she’s selling them to the upper class.”
It was only her initial guess–she couldn’t be sure yet–but Nolan clearly had the same thought. Without that explanation, too many things didn’t add up.
“Cramer said earlier that many in high society are close to Wendy,” Nolan reminded her. “Even if she’s beautiful, she’s still a foreigner here. Money alone wouldn’t win this kind of influence. She must be using this as her calling card—and to keep the rich wives under her control.”
“It’s not just the wives who’d want to slow aging,” Eliza said. “Men would too.”
“This has to be part of a massive industry chain,” Nolan said. “We just haven’t uncovered it yet.”
Eliza pieced together what she knew, but she still couldn’t see exactly how that network had been built.
“I remember Henry once saying,” Nolan went on, “that Wendy used to be an innocent girl. As the Foster family’s daughter, she was raised as a refined, well–bred lady. She shouldn’t have known any of this.”
That sparked something in Eliza. “I get it now. I knew something felt off.”
“How so?”
“Wendy grew up with the Foster family’s education. They’re a pharmaceutical family–she would have had a solid foundation in medicine. But here’s the problem: how could she have built such a massive black–market network on her own?”
She looked at Nolan. “When I researched her before, I found she majored in medical sciences. For her to run something like this, she’d need more than knowledge–she’d need contacts, channels, and an entry into the underworld. In her first twenty years, she couldn’t have accessed that. So… who gave her the connections?”
“You’re saying someone helped her,” Nolan said.
“Exactly. People change because of the influences around them. Wendy’s transformation must

have been gradual. If her contacts didn’t come from Saint Corp, then they came from somewhere else. And based on what we’ve guessed before, there’s someone even more powerful behind her. If it’s not Cramer, then it’s someone else entirely.”

Which meant they couldn’t just investigate Wendy–they had to investigate the force backing her as well.
The thought frustrated Eliza.
This wasn’t what they’d planned. At first, they’d only meant to look into the human remains found at Claire University’s medical school and track down the culprit. That had led them to Wendy. Then Cramer. Then Saint Corp. And now, a whole other shadowy power behind her.
She’d thought the trip abroad would take two weeks at most. Now, it seemed even a year might not be enough.
She hated to think about how she’d explain this to Jean–especially after promising she would capture Wendy. But if they only took down Wendy and left the network running, the tragedies would never end.
Nolan seemed to read her mind. He wrapped his arms around her from behind. “Don’t overthink it. I’m always here with you.”
Just then, a new email notification popped up on Eliza’s laptop.
When she opened it, she saw it was from Wendigo Corp–a formal digital invitation. The message clearly stated that Ms. Wendy was inviting both Eliza and Nolan to attend the company’s upcoming entertainment gala,
