547 The Gala Trap

Wendigo Corp had recently launched two idol groups–a boy band and a girl group—along with a few breakout movie stars bound for Hollywood. Though the company had only existed for a month, it had already become one of the hottest names in the entertainment industry abroad. This gala was its first public event, and the guest list brimmed with celebrity elites and high–society tycoons. Everyone wanted to see what kind of spectacle Wendigo Corp would put
Eliza was no different. Since Wendy had sent her a personal invitation, she decided to take the risk and attend with Nolan. To prevent another trap like the last time, Nolan made sure they came prepared–stationing extra people outside the venue—and had quietly replaced all the gala’s security staff with his own men to ensure nothing went wrong.
Still, both of them doubted Wendy would be reckless enough to try the same stunt again. After her previous failure, this was more likely her way of showing off her achievements.
The gala was held at the Grand International Hotel, and Wendigo Corp had spared no expense. The guest list included people so influential that Eliza had only ever seen their faces in online articles–individuals whose mere presence could shake the industry. Seeing them here, chatting casually with Wendy’s associates, made it clear why even Cramer, despite holding Saint Corp, hadn’t dared to touch her.
Inside, the banquet hall was unlike the traditional ballrooms Eliza had seen. A large dance floor dominated the center, clearly meant for showcasing new talent. All around, successful men and women mingled while industry stars–top models, A–list actors–circulated like accessories, offering small talk, clinking glasses, and enduring light comments about their looks. On screen, these people dazzled; here, they were merely adornments for the powerful.
Eliza found the scene dizzying–handsome men drifting by on one side, striking women on the other. Nolan, with his commanding presence, stood out even among this crowd, drawing lingering glances from several women who began looking for excuses to approach him.
If not for the icy, keep–your–distance air he carried, Eliza was sure they would have swarmed him for his number.
“Our Mr. Hayes is quite the sight,” she said with deliberate tartness. “Even overseas, you’ve got women lining up.”
Nolan caught the note of jealousy in her tone, and it amused him. His faint smile was warm enough to melt the room, though it only made him more noticeable.
One bold woman stepped closer, her gaze intent, completely ignoring Eliza’s presence. Expecting at least a polite exchange, she was instead met with Nolan’s cold, unblinking stare- enough to send her retreating without another word.

When she was gone, Eliza arched an eyebrow. “She was gorgeous, and you really just scared her off?”
“Funny,” Nolan replied, “I think I smell jealousy.”
“Who says I’m jealous?” she shot back, narrowing her eyes. “Don’t act all innocent after getting what you want.”
“My mistake,” he said with a mock bow of his head. “Our Jojo would never be jealous.”
Before she could retort, the lights dimmed. Eliza’s gaze shifted to the center of the dance floor just as a girl group appeared in full stage costumes.
It was the hottest new group in the country, and their entrance captured every eye in the room. They began to sing and dance, and the energy surged instantly.
Eliza leaned toward Nolan. “That’s the group I told you about last night. They debuted and blew up overnight—everyone wanted to invest–but then they vanished from the public eye, building hype. And now they’re back, making their reappearance at a gala like this. It’s pure bait.”
