After all, Wendy had once been a daughter–in–law of the Cullinan family. She knew their etiquette inside and out and had trained Vivian systematically long before sending her into the household.

When Vivian was praised, her cheeks turned pink. But Eliza stepped forward and deliberately said, “The way you were walking just now wasn’t very graceful. Your steps were too small–it made you look petty and provincial.”

Her tone was sharp, every word cutting. Vivian froze, not understanding why Eliza, who had treated her politely yesterday, was suddenly being so cold and harsh today.

Eliza shot her a meaningful look, and Vivian immediately lowered her head in understanding. “I’m sorry. I embarrassed myself.”

“If the future Mrs. Cullinan can only manage this level, people will laugh at us when she’s presented in society,” Eliza added mercilessly.

Vivian bit her lip, unable to reply.

At that moment, Cramer descended the stairs. “It’s her first day learning etiquette, and she’s already doing very well. Ms. Rivers, why be so harsh?”

He hadn’t actually seen Vivian’s posture himself, but the servants had. They were shocked- Vivian had performed flawlessly. Eliza’s own manners were hardly better, yet she had dared to criticize another.

Cramer crossed the room to Vivian’s side. Even without knowing exactly what had happened, he wasn’t about to let anyone bully her.

“Mr. Cullinan, no matter how you look at it, Miss Vivian is someone Wendy sent here,” Eliza said coolly. “Perhaps you shouldn’t take her too much to heart.”

“I think it’s you who should be careful of her,” she added pointedly.

“There’s no need, Ms. Rivers,” Cramer cut her off. “From yesterday, Vivian is no longer Wendy’s daughter. She is my fiancée. If you belittle her, you belittle me.”

He shielded Vivian openly. She leaned into his chest, feeling a peace she had never known before. Just three days ago, she hadn’t dared to dream of such protection.

‘I see. Then it seems I was out of line, Eliza said with a faint smile. “But still, Miss Vivian’s etiquette isn’t quite up to standard. She’ll need to practice diligently in the future.”

Only then did Eliza nod. But Cramer, clearly disliking how Vivian was being singled out, said, “Go back upstairs for now. I still have things to discuss with Ms. Rivers and Mr. Hayes.”

“Alright.”

Vivian obeyed, heading back to her room. Before she went upstairs, she exchanged one last glance with Eliza.

Once she was gone, Eliza turned back to Cramer. “Mr. Cullinan, you seem very protective of Miss Vivian. Are you sure she hasn’t bewitched you somehow?”

“Whether she has or not, I know my own mind. Vivian is simply timid by nature. Please don’t frighten her.”

“I didn’t expect you to value her so much,” Eliza said evenly. “Very well. I’ll watch my words in the future. I won’t put her in an awkward spot again.”

“Good.”

Cramer’s expression stayed cool. “Lately Wendy has been scarce. Catching her won’t be easy. I wanted to hear what ideas you both might have to bring her down quickly.”

Eliza nodded. “That’s been on my mind too. We plan to strike through the entertainment industry. Under Wendigo Corp, Wendy has debuted many newcomers. There’s a strong chance they’ve been injected with illegal enhancers. If that’s true, Wendy–as their boss–can’t escape responsibility. We’ve reviewed her connections. Her network overseas is far stronger than back in Westbrook. She can’t return there. If she causes a scandal abroad, she’ll have no way out.”

“You mentioned this before,” Cramer replied. “I’ve already sent my people to trace the source of those enhancers. We should have answers soon.”

“Finding the source might not be enough,” Eliza countered. “This has to be part of a tightly controlled production chain. Mr. Cullinan, do you know if Wendy has such a chain in her hands?”
