off.”

The woman in the photo looked exactly like Naomi, but to Eliza there was something unfamiliar about her.

The picture alone revealed nothing, so she resolved to return to Westbrook. Only there could she see for herself who this woman really was.

“I’ll go with you,” Nolan said. “Westbrook isn’t far from abroad. Whenever you want to come back, we’ll return.”

“Alright.”

Eliza gripped his hand.

That night, after saying goodbye to Vivian, she left the country with Nolan.

When the plane landed, Halbert was waiting at the airport.

One look at Eliza’s weary face told him everything–things overseas hadn’t gone smoothly.

“The brothers sent me to fetch you,” he said. “Don’t think about anything today. Go home, wash up, sleep. Tomorrow I’ll give you an answer.”

“An answer?” Eliza blinked. “What kind of answer?”

“You’ll know tomorrow.”

Leaving those cryptic words behind, Halbert turned and walked away.

Eliza already knew this was his style. She had no choice but to go back with Nolan in Halbert’s

car.

After food and rest, she slept soundly–far better than she had in days. Being back in Westbrook made her feel safe.

When she awoke, Halbert was already there, a thick file in hand.

“You’re up?” he said. “If not for bringing you this, I wouldn’t bother showing up so early.”

Eliza hurried to him. “What is that? Is it about Wendy?”

“Open it and see.”
