The Hide and Seek Game That Lasted a Lifetime novel Chapter 17

Chapter 7

On the far side of town, Camila had been battling relentless nausea and bouts of vomiting for several days. A brief medical examination soon confirmed what she had hoped—she was pregnant.

Overwhelmed with joy, she eagerly shared the wonderful news with Chase. He was equally ecstatic, his face lighting up with happiness. Together, they attended her appointment with the obstetrician, their hands intertwined as they stepped into the clinic.

However, as they walked away from the hospital, a shadow crossed Camila’s face, dimming the glow of their celebration. Her voice dropped to a whisper, heavy with lingering fear. “Every time I remember that day… when that man tried to assault me… it terrifies me all over again. He never actually touched me, but the fear was just as real. How could Nora be so cruel… so heartless?”

Chase’s expression darkened instantly at the mention of Nora’s name, his jaw tightening. “Why bring her up now? We were having a perfect day until you mentioned her.”

Camila noticed the flicker of disgust that crossed his features, and a small part of her felt satisfied. Mustering her courage, she looked up at him and said firmly, “Didn’t you promise me that whatever Nora did, you’d make her pay back a hundred times over?”

“She tried to have me raped, Chase,” Camila continued, her voice trembling but resolute. “Isn’t it time she faced consequences? Time she got a taste of her own medicine?”

Chase was silent for a moment, clearly wrestling with his thoughts. Finally, he muttered, “That might be going too far…”

Tears welled up in Camila’s eyes as she clutched her growing belly protectively. “All I want is justice for our baby. If you hadn’t shown up when you did, that man would have destroyed me. I’m so scared, Chase…”

Seeing her tears broke through his hardened resolve. His voice softened as he said, “Alright. I’ll take care of it.”

A radiant smile spread across Camila’s face as she threw her arms around him. “You’re the best, Chase.”

He held her close, his voice filled with warmth and determination. “Nothing will ever happen to you. You’re carrying my son now.” Gently, he pressed a tender kiss to her forehead.

That night, Nora was dragged from the cold storage vault.

Dazed and disoriented, Nora’s voice trembled as she asked, “Where are you taking me?”

No one responded.

Suddenly, rough, filthy hands grabbed her, jolting her fully awake. Standing before her were several leering, greasy men with bald heads and cruel grins. Fear drained the color from her face.

“What are you doing?!” she demanded, panic rising in her voice.

They responded with crude laughter. “What do you think we’re doing? We’re going to do you.”

One of them sneered, “Your husband handed you over to us himself. Told us we could do whatever we wanted. Didn’t you know?”

He paused, his voice dripping with menace. “But if you beg me right now… admit your mistake and promise it will never happen again—maybe I’ll consider letting you off this once.”

The men closed in on her.

Nora had never imagined her life would spiral to this point: her own husband orchestrating this nightmare, trapping her like prey.

And now, she had to beg him for mercy.

“Fine! I’ll beg. Just get them away from me… please…” she whispered, desperation breaking through her pride.

“Chase—why are you still watching that camera?” Camila’s voice purred playfully through the speaker. “I bought a new cat-ear lingerie set just for you. Come see~”

“I’m coming, baby,” he replied, his tone dripping with sweetness.

Then, with a click, the feed cut off.
