Chapter 12
Lately, Chase had been making Camila’s days unbearable, turning her world upside down with his relentless cruelty.
One afternoon, when the guards were momentarily distracted, Camila seized the chance to slip away. The moment she spotted Chase, she rushed into his arms without hesitation. Her heart pounded as she clutched his hand and pressed it firmly against her belly, tears streaming down her face while laughter trembled in her voice.
“Chase, look—he kicked! Our baby—he’s really moving…” she whispered, a fragile hope flickering in her eyes. She prayed silently for a sign of kindness, for some trace of mercy—for their child’s sake, for the memories they once shared.
But instead of softening, Chase turned his face away in disgust and spat out a single, icy word.
“Get out.”
Camila’s emotions cracked, her voice sharp and bitter. “You don’t even want your own child? What is it about Nora that makes you treat her like this? What does she have that I don’t?”
Before she could react further, Chase’s hand shot up and gripped her throat with a chilling strength.
“She’s a thousand times better than you’ll ever be, Camila. And you’ll never understand why.”
His voice dropped to a cold sneer. “This baby isn’t staying.”
His words hit her like a frozen wave, and a shiver ran down her spine as if she’d plunged into icy water. Yet, Chase’s expression remained unyielding, his eyes void of any softness. Turning to the bodyguards, he commanded in a harsh tone, “Take her away. I don’t care how—just get rid of it.”
Camila kicked and screamed, desperate to break free, but the guards pulled her back mercilessly. Chase watched the entire scene unfold, his gaze empty of empathy—only the cold satisfaction of revenge glimmered in his eyes.
In his mind, it was all Camila’s fault.
She had driven Nora away.
She had made Nora angry.
So, the more he punished Camila, the more he convinced himself it would prove to Nora how serious he was.
And eventually, she would come back to him.
That evening, Chase stayed up late, poring over the proposal documents. The bidding was set for the next day, and rumors whispered that Dominic would be there.
Despite his efforts to focus on the project, his thoughts kept drifting to her. The question haunted him: would he see Nora there?
Dominic didn’t even flinch. “I didn’t realize I had to report my private life to you.”
A flicker of something—mockery, perhaps—danced in his smile, and it sent a jolt of unease through Chase.
Who was this mysterious fiancée of Dominic’s?
Could it really be… Nora?
During a break halfway through the bidding, Chase found Dominic alone in the stairwell, hoping to negotiate or persuade him to back off.
But as he approached, a sweet, familiar voice floated down the stairs.
“Wait—seriously? You bought this entire amusement park project just so I could get the best view of the fireworks?”
“You’re too good to me, Dominic! I love you~!”
And then, there it was—her voice. Soft, bright, and full of joy. Chase’s feet froze, and a lightning bolt of realization struck him hard.
