The King Of War Returns (Jaden Rift) novel Chapter 122

Ravenmoor City Penitentiary — Cell Block D

The metallic clang of doors echoed down the grimy corridor. Inside Cell 17, the air stank of sweat, damp cement, and desperation. The fluorescent lights flickered overhead, casting jagged shadows along the concrete walls.

A towering inmate paced the cell, muscles rippling beneath his inked skin. His name was Rocco — or so he barked at everyone.

“Listen up!” Rocco bellowed, slamming his fist into the wall, cracking the plaster. “You’re all under my roof now. You breathe because I say you breathe. You sleep when I say you sleep. In here…” His eyes scanned the shivering men pressed against the walls. “…I’m the master.”

Several nervous inmates nodded obediently, their eyes darting to the floor. The word spread like wildfire — Rocco’s the boss now. Whispers filled the cell. The meek called him "Master Rocco" under their breath.

But not everyone bowed.

At the far end of the cell, seated quietly on a steel bench, was a lone figure — broad shoulders hunched forward, head low, eyes hidden beneath messy strands of silver-streaked hair.

Williams Gravesend.

The former kingpin of Ravenmoor. The name carried weight like a storm on the horizon. But tonight, Williams sat still, carved from stone, unmoving.

Rocco noticed.

“Hey… Hey you!” Rocco’s eyes narrowed. His voice cut through the tension like a blade. “What’s wrong with your ears, old man? You deaf or just stupid? Everyone calls me boss here.”

Williams didn’t move.

Rocco’s face contorted with rage. He stormed across the cell, grabbing a rusted chair as he approached. “I’ll make sure you remember my face when you’re chewing through a straw.”

But before Rocco could lift the chair — Williams stood.

It was like watching a wolf rise in a den of sheep.

In one brutal motion, Williams snatched the chair from Rocco’s hands and brought it crashing down across the thug’s head. Metal bent. Rocco staggered, blood trickling from his temple.

Realization dawned in his fogged eyes.

“W-Wait… you… You’re—”

“The former head of the Gravesend Family,” Williams growled, his voice low and gravelly, dripping with venom. “The last man who thought he was ‘boss’ is fertilizing dirt.”

Rocco fell to his knees, trembling. “I-I didn’t know, sir! Please, it was just a joke—!”

SLAM!

The cell door burst open.

A grizzled guard stepped inside, eyes sharp as razors. “What the hell’s going on in here?!”

The inmates froze.

The guard’s gaze landed on Williams. “Williams Gravesend… get your ass out here.”

Williams exhaled, rolling his shoulders as he approached.

In the hallway, another officer approached, flipping through papers. “Well, well… congratulations, Williams Gravesend.” The officer sneered. “Your bail bondsman finally showed up.”
