The King Of War Returns (Jaden Rift) novel Chapter 79

At the Gravesend Mansion

The clock struck midnight in Gravesend Mansion.

The dimly lit corridors were silent, save for the occasional creaking of wooden floors under a restless stride.

Inside his private chamber, Williams Gravesend stood with his hands crossed firmly behind his back. His silhouette was rigid against the large window, a view of the sprawling city beneath him — a city that seemed less alive now that his son was gone.

He remained there in silence, battling memories — the last phone call with Baron, the promises made… promises now impossible to keep. Baron was his only seed, he planned to make him better than him, to be his successor. But now someone has the guts to kill his child.

Suddenly, a soft knock came at the heavy wooden door.

“Enter.”

Williams’ voice was firm, icy — a man worn by tragedy and rage.

The door opened and Peter walked in, dressed in a tailored black suit. His face was composed, but nervousness trembled beneath it.

“What is it?”

Williams turned just slightly, not enough to face him directly.

“Have you gotten the killer yet?”

Peter swallowed quietly.

“Not yet, Father… but we… we made contact. We… invited him… with a threat.”

He paused, choosing his words carefully.

“And… he… agreed to come.”

For a moment there was silence. The only sound was the crackling of the nearby fireplace.

Williams nodded slowly, some of the tension in his knuckles easing.

“Good.”

He turned back toward the window, adding quietly,

“Make sure that bastard is killed. Whatever it takes.”

Peter pressed a fist against his chest in a vow.

“I will… whatever it costs me… I’ll bring you his head myself.”

It was Drax.

He crossed his legs casually and nodded toward him.

“My boss wants a word with you.”

Peter opened his mouth to call for help —

but in a blur of movement, Drax crossed the room in two quick strides and struck him once, hard, directly at the base of his neck.

Peter fell forward, unconscious, without another word.

Drax sighed quietly.

“Too easy.”

He knelt briefly beside the fallen man, pressed a gloved finger against his pulse — strong, alive — then stood up.

"Glad I didn't kill him, I was worried for a moment." he chuckled.

Then he picked him up and hand him over his shoulder like a rag doll.
