Chapter 202 – Shred
–CAITLYN’S POV–

“No,” I said, glaring up at him. “You’re lying. They couldn’t have
ran.”
The Order would never do that.
They hated werewolves. They never left a mission incomplete.
They couldn’t have left without putting an end to Zane’s pack.
It’s not how they operated.
“It’s what happened, Caitlyn, whether you believe it or not.” Blake shrugged.
I stared at him, my face hard.
“Your precious Lia and her friends were outnumbered. We had the best weapons. There were poisonous grenades, mind–controlled werewolves and bombs. Zane and his pack could not have won this battle, Blake. Not even with your pack to help.”
Blake stared back at me, blinking twice.
He then leaned in, and I sucked in a breath, tightly jamming my head against the door.

His green eyes bore into me, the shade reminding me of emeralds.

“The Order could have brought weapons from the entire world, and still, they’d be a joke in front of Lia. You have no idea what you were up against, Caitlyn, and that is exactly why I had to kidnap you and bring you here. Do you think I wanted to do this?” He scoffed.
My throat felt dry. I frowned at him, my jaw still clenched.
“You didn’t bring me here to protect me,” I hissed. “Do not try to get into my head. I am immune to your tricks, Blake Walker. I’m not some idiot human girl desperate for someone to love her.”
Blake’s eyes narrowed a little, and he leaned further in, making me squeeze my eyes shut. My toes curled under me to keep my feet from trembling.
He was too close. His breath traced over my lips.
“I think, you’re so desperate for love, that you’d fight against an army of supernatural creatures to find it. Do you really think I didn’t do my research about you?”
My eyes shot open at that, throat starting to close up. I knew what reflected in my gaze, and I hated how I couldn’t hide it.
I was supposed to be in more control of my emotions,

I was supposed to be a hardened soldier.
Not a little girl who wore her emotions on her face.

Blake leaned away, allowing me some air. His gaze softened.
“When I saw Lia for the first time, and realised that she was my mate, I didn’t approach her at once. I took my time, learning about her, getting to know more about her. Her likes, her dislikes. Who her friends were. And her enemies.” He chuckled softly. “I even went the extra mile and dyed my hair blonde before I met her. Just because her laptop wallpaper was a game character with bleached hair. She never even realised it when my real hair grew at the roots. She didn’t comment when I dyed it all back to brown again. I’d thought I’d gain an edge by doing all of this, but… I guess a part of her was already too bonded to Zane years before I even met her.”
An unwelcome discomfort spread through me. I raised a brow at him. “Are you fishing for sympathy?”
“No,” he shook his head, “I’m just telling you the lengths I’m willing to go. For the person created for me. I had thought it was her, but I was wrong.”
My breath caught in my throat.
No.

Don’t you dare say it.
“I will rip your tongue out,” I whispered, my eyes warning.
The corner of his mouth curled into a half smile.
“I know,” he replied. “Move now, go sit on the bed.”
I didn’t want to remain trapped between him and the door anymore, so I obliged, moving around him.
“Good girl,” he said drily, before leaving the room.
The door clicked shut at once, and I released a heavy breath, before glancing around.
No windows. No doors.
Just plain walls.
A prison.
No, more like a holding cell for psychos.
I didn’t deserve to be here.
He did.
