–LIA’S POV–

The annoying honk of his car rang outside, and my stomach exploded with butterflies as I rushed down the stairs. Before, I’d taken it all for granted. But now, every moment with him felt like a dream.
I opened the door, yelling a quick bye so my parents would know I was leaving, but stopped when Zane approached the doorstep.
And he didn’t come empty handed.
He had flowers.
A small bouquet of yellow daisies wrapped in brown paper, like he was trying to be fancy and adorable at the same time.
I stared at him for a good five seconds before I realised I was smiling way too hard.
“You bought me flowers?” I said, already taking them from him.
“You said you missed normal.” He shrugged, like this was no big deal. “So I figured I’d do something cheesy and date–like.”

Behind me, Mom made a soft sound. The one that meant she was very pleased and would bring this up every time Zane’s
name came up now.
“Good morning, Mr. and Mrs. Snow,” Zane said, stepping forward politely.
Dad squinted at him. “You’re healed.”
My eyes widened a bit as Zane glanced at me.
My parents thought he’d been in a car accident, which is why he hadn’t been picking me up for school.
But Zane nodded calmly. “Almost completely, yes.”
Dad hummed. “Well. Don’t get into another accident. Not with my daughter in your car.”
“I promise I won’t,” Zane said instantly. “I don’t take risks with Lia.”
A smile stretched over my lips, and I could swear I saw a ghost of one on Dad’s face too. He gave a nod and returned his eyes to
the television.
“Stay safe, darling,” Mom said.
“Bye,” I said, taking Zane’s hand and leading him outside.

“You really brought me flowers,” I muttered again, glancing at them.
“Yeah. You’re my girlfriend. It’s allowed.”
I snorted. “Fair enough.”
We reached his car and like a perfect gentleman, he opened the door for me. I thanked him and sat inside, watching him as he moved around the car to get in himself.
I couldn’t describe how happy I felt to see him like this. Back on his feet. Out and about. Perfectly healthy and healed.
He raised a brow at me as he started the engine. “What?”
I looked away, shaking my head. “Just thinking about how much I love you.”
“Well, multiply that with ten, and you end up with my love for you.”

The moment we walked into school, about ten heads turned. Not subtle glances, either. People were actually staring. Like they’d seen a ghost.
Someone whispered, “Zane Adams is back? Thank God.”

Another muttered, “I thought he moved away…”
Okay, wow.

Popular boys were clearly missed a lot. He barely even talked to anyone except the Hounds, and yet, everyone still seemed so concerned about him.
We made it halfway through the hallway when Rhonda and Bethany suddenly popped up. We shared a lot of classes with them, and I didn’t particularly like them.
“Zane!” Rhonda said, smiling like her face might break. “Oh my God, you’re alive!”
