Chapter 28 – Dirty–1
–BLAKE’S POV–
I didn’t know what to do.
Lucky Draw
When I dreamt about her, about this town, I thought fate was completely on my side, leading me to my fated mate, so we could live happily ever after. I never expected the Goddess to throw me a curve ball like this. To have my mate be someone else’s too, and for her to be so forgiving and oblivious in nature that she was letting a jerk like Zane Adams distract her from me.
When I showed up in town, I thought that my route was clear: Save the girl from her werewolf bullies, create a dangerous situation and save her from it, revealing my true nature to her, and then tell her the truth. It was a simple plan; long, definitely, but quite simple. However Zane Adams decided to turn sixteen the same day she did, and fate decided that I should share my mate with another, ruining everything.
When I first smelled him on her, I wanted to rip his head off. It was on her birthday, and I’d almost lost my mind. But I quickly calmed myself down, reminding myself that I couldn’t show her the truth this way. She would be terrified of me. And logically speaking, she would definitely choose me, not him. After all, he and his friends had bullied her for years.
Who would have thought that Lia Snow would ignore all of that? That she’d forgive him, she’d start to trust him and get excited

every time he’d get close enough. I wanted to do the same things to her. I wanted to romance her every chance I’d get, and yet, I didn’t. Because in spite of everything he did to her, and despite everything I did for her, she somehow displayed more trust for him than me. When I got too close, she tensed up, and not in a good way. Whilst with him, she looked dazed and lost in his
eves.
“Oh well,” Zane muttered, as we watched Lia storm away. “That didn’t go too well.”
“Could’ve been worse,” I said.
“Yeah, true.”
Zane glanced at me, then yawned. “You know, you had a good plan, Blake.”
“What plan?” I rolled my eyes. No one had ever managed to get on my nerves more than this guy did.
“Get her attacked by a werewolf and then sweep in to save her. Too bad, it didn’t work the way you wanted.”
How could he know?
I quickly focused on staying calm, because my reaction would expose me to him further.
“You think I arranged that?” I said incredulously. “Why would I

ever put her in danger? Why would I want to expose myself to
her like this?”
“So that you could look like her hero.” He chuckled. “Just like you did when my Hounds were bullying her.”
“Except, you saved her, not me. So you’re the one who looked like the hero, Zane, not me. You didn’t even fully transform. You stayed in your human form during the fight so she could clearly see it was you.”
“I didn’t transform because there wasn’t time to. Your hired wolf was going to hurt her.”
“I didn’t hire him,” I snapped, clenching my jaw. “If this was all my plan, why wouldn’t I be the one to save her?”
“Because you got separated, Walker. Otherwise, it would’ve been you. I didn’t attack him to become the hero, I attacked him to protect her. Because I will always protect her, no matter what.”
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.
