The Lycan King's Forbidden Craving novel Chapter 220

220: Your nemesis

Valoreth walked into a room, seeing the mother and her newborn hild cradled in her arms. The maids tending to her paused their work and bowed.

He approached, his steps slow and deliberate.

Ggood evening, your Grace,Yvonne greeted in a shaky voice.

The man stayed silent, staring at the child sucking her mother’s breast.

I heard you bore the king’s heir,Valoreth said, still not shifting his gaze away from the child.

Yes, my Lord,she replied.

Yvonne swallowed her excess saliva. Her fingers trembled slightly, but she recalled Gatha’s warning. If they found out she lied, they would kill both her and her baby. But how long could she pretend like this?

The announcement will be made. This king has an heir. That way Toran’s stance at the throne will be certain. And once the child turns five, he shall be the king of the realm.

Yvonne’s face lit up, the knot in her stomach loosening, replaced by delight. Her child would become king.

Risky, Scary but intriguing. If this will happen. If her child will become the king then she would do whatever it takes to keep the

secret.

No one will ever know.

Thank you, my Lord. I’ll make sure I bring him up well, she said glancing at her child and back at him. You don’t have to worry about anything. This child, will be a great king of the realm.

Lord Valoreth stared at her long enough to bring that knot back to her stomach.

He outstretched a hand. Let me see the child.

Yvonne stopped breathing.

Toran had fallen asleep in her arms. She made the soldiers take him back to his chamber, thanks to the royal scroll and Valoreth being distracted at the moment.

She washed him up, noticing his lean structure. He didn’t wake at all, as if exhausted to the core.

Now he lay on the bed while she watched him sleep.

Then it hit her. She was supposed to visit Selene’s grave today. It was that time of the month.

She locked the door and kept the key, then ordered a guard to watch over and not let anyone else in. She wouldn’t take long.

Reaching the large tree, Brigid froze at the sight of Gatha standing beside the grave with her hands clasped behind her.

The old maid looked up, meeting her gaze.

What are you doing here?Brigid stepped forward.

I don’t think there’s anywhere prohibited for me to stand, my lady,Gatha replied calmly.

Well, here is. From this moment, you are not allowed to come here,Brigid glared as she halted a few paces away. “Who are you?

I’m not sure I understand what you mean, my lady.

Don’t bullshit me. You said I’m reaping what I sow. Does that mean you’ve been killing my children on purpose?she asked.

That was the king’s order.

The king’s order?Brigid laughed. Then why did you tell me his mistress was going to bear a girl? Did you perhaps hide her baby’s gender? I begged you so hard for something like that, but you never listened. Yet you did that favor for Yvonne!

Gatha stayed quiet.

Aren’t you afraid I’m going to spill it out and tell Lord Valoreth to confirm the baby’s identity? Both you and that mistress will be in a deep shit.

It’s your choice, my queen,Gatha replied calmly. Tell them. Let them know and have the mother and child killed. You’ll have their blood on your hands. This is a sweet revenge for you, after all. That mistress has been a pain in your neck.

Brigid was breathing hard, her hands clenched at her sides. Why would you say such a thing? What do you want from me?

What do you think, your majesty? The old maid walked towards the large tree, staring at it as though she knew someone was buried there.

Step away from there.

What do you think she thinks about you?Gatha asked.

Brigid squinted. What do you mean?

Selene. Your mother figure. What do you think she thinks about you after all you’ve done?

Brigid’s brows creased. Her breath seized.

You’re new in the palace; how do you know Selene?

Silence.

Are you someone close to her? Do you know her?Brigid’s voice cracked.

I don’t,the old woman shrugged. I simply heard what kind of woman she was. An ouroboros who spent her life trying to save

her people. And she succeeded. But she wouldn’t have died if someone had been grateful.

Red clouded Brigid’s vision. But the maid was right, and she hated that the wound had opened once again.

Where did you come from? Her voice trembled.

Gatha laughed, the sound creepy to her ears. Then her expression suddenly dropped, cold and scary.

You and the king’s nemesis.

Brigid glared hard at her. Gatha returning the same intensity muttered. Why are you acting like the victim here Brigid?
