The Lycan King's Forbidden Craving novel Chapter 234

334: Seven years ago (2)

Lunaris Citadell

After Arianna was dragged away to be executed, Sabrak removed Selene’s mask and stepped toward Duncan’s body with a sword.

He paused, staring at the face of the socalled strongest male of the realm, about to have a sword plunged in his heart and his mare killed. He nearly laughed at the thought.

Mages like him were forbidden to use dark magic. Because of King Duncan’s rule, Sahrak and his people had been forced to live in discreet.

Ending Duncan meant a new life for him. He’d get to do whatever he wanted. He had been delighted when Lord Valoreth came to him.

Well, well, well, King Duncan,he smirked, raising the blade. ve been dying to do this for a long time.

Let me in! It’s a message from Lord Valoreth!a tiny voice rang from outside, making Sahrak halt.

Who’s that?he asked one of the soldiers in the room.

Amaid. She says she has a message from Lord Valoreth, the soldier replied.

Sahrak exhaled. “What does he want now? Let her in.

Amy stumbled in with a scrowl. The faces of the soldiers made her almost pee her pants.

A human maid? You don’t look familiar. How could Lord Valoreth send you?Sahrak raised a brow, accepting the scroll.

The message is from the king himself,Amy replied.

Sahrak froze, then chuckled. You have to be kidding me. King Duncan?

Seeing how serious she was. He unrolled the scroll, curious on what to find. What he saw wiped the smirk from his face.

His eyes darted to Duncan’s unconscious body. He swallowed, then scoffed.

He’ll give me half his territory and wealth? When he’s about to die? Does your king think he can fool me?he hissed.

But thenhe read further. The blood drained from his face. The scroll trembled slightly in his hand.

Amy watched him nervously, standing still like a statue. She had no idea what was written, but she prayed it would be enough, because Duncan hadn’t even twitched.

Sahrak’s lips moved silently as he read the final lines of the king’s message:

> Only the true ruler of Lunaris can unseal the Vault of Eldhiran. The code to its gate lives within my blood. Kill me, and all you’ll ever hold is what you can carry. Let me liveand you’ll have access to a vault filled with ancient riches, grimoires lost to time, and treasures that could buy a kingdom twice over. This is not a bluff. You know it’s not.<

Sahrak’s eyes widened.

The Vault of Eldhiran. He had heard tales of its treasures, accessible only to the king.

Valoreth never cared about such things, he never even spoke of it but Sahrak? He did, more than anything.

He couldn’t kill Duncan now, not until he laid hands on it.

Blow the death trumpet and take the king’s body to the dungeon Lay him in the silver coffin. I’ll meet you there,he told the soldiers, then glanced once more at the king’s body before hiding the scroll in his cloak. He put on the mask that made him look like Selene and left to find Lord Valoreth.

Vault? The king has a vault of wealth? What are you talking aboutValoreth raised a brow.

But Asterah, couldn’t stop thinking about it, especially with how qrkly Valoreth had dismissed it.

He hadn’t bothered to save Arianna, he was for. He couldn’t trust Duncan. but that treasure? He needed it. It would give him more wealth and power than he could ever imagine.

Merek and Gatha got to the palace late. It was all over by the time they arrived, their clothes stained with the blood of the rogues they had fought and dirt from the road. They couldn’t save Arianna They had failed.

Gatha was sobbing, fists clenched, as it all felt like a nightmare. Lean’t believe this. They killed her. What should we do now?

We find the king’s body,Merek replied. They must have it somewhere.

Gatha wiped her tears and took a deep breath to steady herself. Let’s start searching.

They headed out, using the opportunity while Valoreth was still busy clearing out the commotion. Merek checked the ambassador’s wing, trying his best not to get noticed, but he was spotted by Damaris, who crossed his path.

Lord Merek.

Merek cursed under his breath but stayed calm and played along.

Gatha went for the dungeon, now changed into cleaner attire. As the Lady of the West, she was permitted access, except for one particular chamber.

It was heavily guarded. Suspicious.

May I ask what the Lady of the West is doing here?

Gatha turned to see a gothiclooking male with ink pattern etched across his skin. It must be the mage. And if he was here, that meant the king’s body was likely kept there.

And he had been the one who was meant to end the king.

She approached, her stance composed, and leaned in to whisper. I know of the Vault of Eldhiran. The king’s treasure and I’m here to help you access it.

The mage’s eyes sparked with interest, though he quickly tried to hide it.
