335: Disguise
As the soldiers approached, they suddenly paused, as if struck by something, including Sahrak. Their eyes rolled back into their sockets and their bodies collapsed to the floor with a thud.
Sahrak, the last, frowned before falling.
Gatha froze, staring at the sudden unconscious men, her breaths itched.
Clicks echoed, approaching the dungeon. The Seer, Evelora, appeared, blind and supported by her staff.
“Please tell me I arrived just in time,” the old woman said.
Silence.
Then stunned, Gatha spoke. “You did that to them?”
“Yes, Lady Gatha. I have powers, of course, but I only use them as the heavens permit,” Evelora stepped in further. “I got the king’s message as well.”
Evelora’s male servants matched, and Gatha couldn’t help but wonder how they had even gotten there. Or just how powerful this High Seer truly was.
“Worry not. The king’s body shall be in good hands,” Evelora said as her servants carried the king’s body away. They brought in arandom soldier, placed him in the coffin and then shut it close.
Gatha gave her a questioning look.
“That’s one of Valoreth’s Lycan soldiers,” Evelora answered the unspoken question.
“Will… the king die?” Gatha asked, her voice shaky.
“Let’s see what I can do,” Evelora said calmly. “If the heavens want him to stay, then that is their choice to make. But one thing is certain. Duncan has been the greatest ruler of all time. The strongest male in the realm. If he has overcome so many obstacles for centuries without falling, then… he can overcome this too.”
Gatha’s nerves finally calmed. She nodded in understanding. “We’ll do all we can. We’ll stay and support the king, no matter how long it takes.”
Evelora’s lips stretched into a warm smile and she turned to leave.
“Wait!” Gatha called, halting the High Seer. “What about the mage? What if he opens the coffin and finds out Duncan isn’t in
it?”
“Ah, right.” Evelora turned to the mage. “I almost forgot.” She snapped her fingers. “There you go.”
Gatha blinked.
Evelora explained, “I created a cursed illusion of him having a wife and son he cares about more than his greed for power and wealth. Threaten him with it and you’ll have him in the palm of your hand. But the illusion will break once he finds out he never had a family. Be careful what he hears.”
Another wave of relief washed over Gatha. “Thank you so much, High Seer,” she said, bowing slightly.
“My pleasure. And also, I’ll tell you what the king told me. Tell the others as well.” Evelora’s voice dropped slightly. Calm, yet cold as she repeated Duncan’s final message.
“Let the realm bleed for what they chose. If fate has written that they’ll know what it means not to have a frue guardian, then so be it.
“Let them see the masks of the real devils. Let them mourn. Let them scream. Let them bleed. Let them rage.
“It was never my wish for them, but sometimes, it’s only when blood is spilled that the truth is finally seen.”

satha stood frozen, the wide rechoing in her head, as though the ing was right in front of her saying them himself. They were his words, after all.
After that, Evelora left with the hit servants, and soon, the image and the soldier stirred awake
Sahrak shook his head as if waking up from a trance and flicked his gaze to Gatha, who sat on the coffin with her legs crossed.
“you” he growled, standing to his feet. “What did you do to me? You have some dark magic too? Ha! I can’t believe this.”
“I have your wife and son,” Gatha said calmly, and Sahrak froze, eyes widening to their limit.
“W… what did you just say?”
Gatha smirked. It was working.
“Your wife and son. I’ve poisoned them and kept them somewhere. And if you want to save them, I have the antidote. Henceforth, you shall obey me if you want them to leave.”
Sahrak paled. His breath hitched. “No…”
“Send the soldiers away. Let’s have a little talk.‘
Sahrak swallowed hard, turned to the soldiers, and barked at them to leave. Once they were gone, he dropped to his knees, eyes wet and body shaking.
Don’t hurt them, please. I beg of you. They mean everything to me. Please…”
Amusing. This was fun.
The High Seer really was powerful to have a dark mage trembling like this.
“What’s your name?” Gatha asked.
“Sahrak.”
Gatha frowned. “Sahrak Bellion. The Masked Mage who could take any face?” She scoffed. “Now I see why that bastard Valoreth approached you. He must’ve offered you a lot.”
Sahrak’s lips quivered. “Please, just tell me what to do. I’ll do anything to save them.”
