That night, Valoreth was haunted by nightmares again.

This time, Duncan was seated on the throne like the devil he was, ughing at him. Those piercing golden eyes sent chills down his spine. Behind the throne, flames glowed to life…
“You won’t escape me, Valoreth,” he said, his voice echoing in several deep, overlapping tones.
As if that wasn’t enough, Arianna appeared beside him, looking like the dead. Dark cracks crawling across her skin, her eyes white, her head crooked to the side in an eerie, unnatural way. A creepy grin spread across her lips as she whispered in a haunting voice:
“We’ll haunt you forever. There’s always a space in hell for scumbags like you.” The grin widened. “You’ll forever and forever pay for your mistake… Valoreth Bellion,” she finished in a low, deadly whisper. “Forever.”
Valoreth shivered in place.
“You’re dead! You’re fucking dead!” he screamed.
Suddenly, they vanished, disappearing into thin air. The space turned pitch black and silent, save for his heavy breathing.
Then a torch flared to life, casting a warm glow through the darkness. Out of the shadows emerged people with silver hair and silver eyes.
The Ouroboros, once he persumed died in the war. They were all covered in blood, staring directly at him.
This isn’t real. This is just a nightmare, Valoreth. You need to wake up.
But then he heard footsteps behind him. Gentle, measured, absolute.
“Honey.”
The voice froze him. He would recognize it anywhere. It immediately set every vein in him on fire.
That voice… it was his wife’s. Mearina.
That’s not possible.
With ragged breathing, he slowly turned his head to glance over his shoulder.
His gaze started from the ground, elegant heels, just like the ones she used to wear, then up to her slitted, velvet wine–blue shimmering dress, her favorite.
Then his gaze dragged up to her face… only to realize she had none
Just a rough, meaty, blood–soaked stump where her head should have been.
Valoreth head spun.
“You killed me.”
Valoreth glanced down at the voic. She was holding her own severed head.
His stomach twisted. He stumbled back, horrified.
“You said the realm would be better. That you’d protect my children. But instead, you planned to marry them off for your greed,” Mearina’s head spat, her eyes burning with rage. “You deserve to die, honey. Come join me, you foolish bastard!”
“No!” Valoreth shook his head, trembling as he backed away.
The Ouroboros surrounding him began to chant, all closing in.
“Die!”

“Die!”
‘Die!”
“Stay away!” Valoreth screamed, but the voices only grew louder as they reached for him.
That’s when he jolted awake, eyes wide. Sweat drenched his skin, soaking his nightclothes.
He had never admitted it, but when it came to ghosts and shadows Valoreth wasn’t the type to handle fear well.
“You’ll rot in hell.”
His head snapped toward the voice.
Arianna was seated across the room in the same horrific form from his nightmare, that creepy grin still etched on her face.
Valoreth let out a high–pitched scream and bolted from his chamber. He tripped and fell in the hallway, scrambling backward until he was a safe distance away.
Unaware that dawn had already broken, he didn’t notice the maids and soldiers already going about their duties.
“He’s at it again, screaming in his sleep,” one maid whispered to another.
Valoreth looked up and saw them watching. His face flushed with embarrassment.
He staggered to his feet and dusted off his robe.
“What the hell are you all looking at?!” he barked, and as they scrambled away, he returned to his chamber and turned on the
lights.
It was empty.
Fuck. His mind really was a mess, just as Damaris had said.
Someone was definitely tampering with his sleep.
Maybe it really was Sahrak. That fucking bastard.
Meanwhile, in a quiet, shadowy corner, Arianna and Gatha stood side by side, smirking.
“Nice makeover, Lady Gatha. It worked perfectly,” Arianna said.
“It’s my pleasure, Your Highness,” Gatha replied.
Arianna was going to make Valoreth crumble. With madness pills silently slipped into his meals and nightmares gnawing at his
mind…
Valoreth would be in pieces long before the final blow comes.
{Dragon realm}
It had been five days since Drakora left. The realm was still healing from the loss, but they knew their goddess would always be watching over them.
Sylra read the silver–written scroll, the last message Drakora had left for her.
‘I choose you as the new Watcher of the Ouroboros. You’ll guide the people forward and rebuild them until the land is once again whole.‘
Sylra never expected to be given this position, one that had belonged to the late Selene’s generation. She wasn’t sure if she could handle such a great responsibility as well as they had. But it was the goddess’s decision to make her the next one.

And the Ouroboros needed a new Watcher, especially now that Drakora was gone.

There was a small map at the end of the scroll. Drakora had asked her to go to that location three days after her ascension, and
now the time had come.
After two and a half hours of searching, she came to a halt in front of a small mountain, its surface icy and covered in thick snow.
Sylra dismounted from her horse, cleared the snow, and found the opening. She entered, heart pounding at what she might find
inside.
Her hands instinctively rubbed her shoulders against the frigid air. Her grey boots crackled against the rocky floor.
She squinted at something behind a large stone and paused at a sudden thud. Her stomach flipped. Lips quivering, she moved closer to check.
The thud echoed again.
Then she saw it. A white, massive egg, the size of a boulder. Its shell was smooth and glowing beneath a layer of frost. She had never seen an egg this large before.
Sylra slowly moved closer and dropped to her knees. The thud came again from inside the egg, causing her to flinch.
Holy fire.
She considered leaving, but it felt as though it was calling to her.
With a heavy breath, she slowly reached out to touch it. It was warm, despite the freezing wind. Then, it suddenly cracked.
