252: When I grow up
In the north wing, the Crimson Pack was among the list of packs about to be raided. Thanks to soldiers from the recent Ouroboros war who had deceived Valoreth, they were able to obtal information early and immediately devised a plan.
“I’ve got a signal. They’ll be here any moment,” one soldier said to Falcon.
Falcon nodded and stepped down from the wall, approaching the gates just as they opened to let Eryz ride in with a cart.
“Got enough weapons?” he asked.
“Sure. Enough to soak the earth in devils‘ blood. Not just weapons though we brought someone as well,” Eryz replied, giving Falcon a cue to look at the next horse riding in.
Falcon froze, his lips parting as he watched the male, clad in a common tunic and strapped with weapons, dismount the horse.
“M… my Lord?”
Lucas approached with a small smile. “Good to see you again, Falcon.”
“My Lord!” Falcon shouted, bolting forward to hug him without a second thought, eyes welling with tears. “Oh my goodness, you’re a…” He paused, suddenly pulling away as realization struck him.
Lucas blinked, still frozen.
‘Apologies, my Lord,” Falcon croaked, unable to control his tears. He stifled a sob, keeping his head low. “I just couldn’t contain my happiness… I… I thought I lost you.”
Lucas snorted. Then, to Falcon’s surprise, he stepped forward and pulled him into an embrace.
Falcon immediately burst into tears, wrapping his arms tightly around Lucas.
“Thanks a lot, Falcon.”
Falcon gripped tighter, trembling like a boy who’d just found his lost brother.
“You have no idea how many times I prayed for you, my Lord… every bloody night,” he whispered, voice choked.
Lucas gave him a small squeeze before pulling back, his hand resting firmly on Falcon’s shoulder. “You saved me. That alone is enough reason to call you my friend.”
Falcon lowered his head, trying to steady his breath.
Eryz cleared his throat lightly. “I hate to ruin the moment, but I never thought a soldier like you could cry, Falcon,”
“I’m not…” Falcon wiped his face, but the tears kept rolling. He heard Eryz laugh and shot him a glare. “Screw you, Eryz!”
Eryz snorted.
“We’ve got no time to waste. There are rogues to fight off,” Lucas said.
“Yes, my Lord. On your command!” Falcon saluted.
Gods, he’d missed this male.

Nyra sighed, staring at the young, guilty Ouroboros boy on the bed, then turned to face Lylah, who wore a mad look. “He just experienced shock from the fear of height, and with a few medicines and rest, he’ll be fine.”
“Thanks, Nyra,” Lylah uttered through her gritted teeth at Cal, who lay on the bed sweating. He hadn’t seen Lylah this angry

before.
Nyra, however, went to meet Rheal for the umpteenth time in the last five hours since they got her. Her lips stretched into a wide grin.
“I hope you don’t need anything. Rheal Thomevale,” she squealed
Rheal nodded. “I’m good.”
“I can’t believe you’re here,” she squealing again, giving him a gentle pinch on the cheek and left.
Then the air in the room shifted. Cold.
“I’m sorry, Lylah… I just-

“You have no excuse, Cal. I’m so mad at you. You were afraid of heights, yet you snuck into our food cart, hid there, and went unconscious. What if you had died from the shock? Why don’t you ever listen?!”
Cal swallowed, eyes tearing up. “I’m sorry… I… I just wanted to come.”
Lylah hissed. “Why are you so adamant? This could have been worse, Cal. You should have thought of Sylra. She’d be worried sick!”
“I came to see where my father is buried,” Cal admitted, voice shaky. “He left all of a sudden back then and L… I just want to feel him once more… it’s been bothering me for years now, and I just couldn’t stop myself. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you, Lylah, or make mommy worried… please. I just wanted to see…”
The remaining words seems to stuck in his throat. Then he burst into tears.
Lylah’s gaze softened. She stood and reached out to him, pulling him close.
“It’s fine. Sorry for being mad at you.”
Cal wrapped his arms around her, sobbing. “I’ll never do stunts like that again. I’m sorry.”
“It’s alright. I was just worried. I’m sure Sylra already got the message we sent that you’re here.” Lylah caressed his hair gently, and as minutes passed, the medicine Nyra gave Cal took effect. He fell asleep on the bed.
Lylah sighed, slightly guilty about how she had yelled at Cal and not fully understanding why he had done that. At his age, she might have done the same.
She went to sit beside quiet Rheal, keeping her hands in her pockets and staring into space. When she felt Rheal’s stare, she glanced at him, meeting the pair of unique eyes that made her smile every damn time.
“Is everything alright, Auntie?” he asked.
Lylah blinked. “Why would you ask that?”
“Well… I’m not a deep sleeper, so I might’ve heard a little from what you and Uncle Lu said while we took a break during the travel.”
Lylah bit the inside of her cheek, averting her gaze, recalling that night.
She had argued with Lucas and had been on edge ever since. Not his fault, but hers. She just still couldn’t figure out w had been happening to her. And she hated it so much.

“I’m fine. It… it’s just the stress, I guess,” she forced a smile. “You know I’m not really that use to ride a dragon.”
“Hm. Grandma told me how proud she was of you.”
Lylah looked at him. He was playing with his wooden dragon toy.
“She did?”
