“Yeah. But only for now. There’ll always be enemies lurking in the shadows. My return only silenced them temporarily.”

“But at least the main ones are down. At your mercy. And a beautiful life lies ahead,” Lucas smiled warmly.

“And that, we’re going to focus on,” Duncan mumbled, glancing at him. “Thank once again… for surviving.”

“I should be thanking you instead. But I’m still a little mad you didn’t tell me what the Seer said back then.”

Duncan sighed. He knew Lucas would bring it up.

“I didn’t want to burden you. And I wasn’t so sure how you’d take or how it would happen.”

Silence stretched between them for a breath.

“But still, I could have helped carry that burden. You know I’ll always have your back,” he said, his voice tinged with sincerity.

Lucas snorted. “Look who’s talking.”

Then his mind drifted to Lylah. Gods, he missed her. Ever since he woke, this was the longest he’d gone without seeing or hearing from her. But if this space would help her heal, then he was willing to wait.

“You already knew this would happen. She’s one brave and determined woman. It’s no surprise she broke through, and I’m glad she did,” Lucas said, staring at the sky and relishing memories of her. “Can’t believe I’m in love.”

Duncan choked on his wine, coughing once. “Huh?”

“Why are you surprised? You fell in love with Queen Arianna in a month, just too stubborn to say it or accept it.”

“It came out of you unexpectedly. You can’t blame me. I know how cold and stubborn you are,”

Lucas scoffed. “Oh, now you’re shocked? You have no idea seeing the cold Ruthless Grand King all romantic, it felt like the world had tilted sideways. I had to question reality several times.”

Duncan let out a soft laugh, and Lucas followed. The sound was bliss to their ears.

“They changed us,” Duncan muttered. “Fought through our darkness, sparked the light again, and filled it until we could see the beauty beneath our scars.”

Lucas hummed and drank from his cup.

“May I ask when you’re going to give Rheal a cousins?”

This time, it was Lucas who choked on his wine. He coughed far longer than Duncan, his face turning red.

Duncan smirked with satisfaction. “Now we’re even. Why are you so flustered?”

“How could… why… didn’t I…” Lucas sighed and looked away. “Never mind.”

Duncan counted silently, and on three, Lucas spoke again, spilling everything trapped in his head.

“Of course I plan to have kids. A lot of them, even. I can already imagine how beautiful it would be. But we’re on a break right now, and it’s driving me nuts. Damn, it’s almost two weeks and…”
