Chapter 7
The commotion must have been too much, so Andrew walked over.
“What’s going on?”
Before I could answer, Mrs. Smith gave him a clear and concise explanation.
Andrew narrowed his eyes at Victoria, his tone firm and commanding.
“Apologize.”
Everyone in the room knew Victoria was asking Andrew for a business favor. So right now, she had
no choice but to swallow her pride.
She clenched her jaw, forced out a bitter “Sorry,” but there was still a hint of resentment in her
eyes.
Then, as if reminded that Andrew had already rejected her proposal, she added coldly,
“Mr. Johnson, the woman next to you is someone’s leftovers. I wonder if Mrs. Johnson knows just how much you’ve been fooling around outside.”
Andrew let out a sharp laugh.
“If you’ve got the guts, go tell my wife and see how she reacts.”
The people around us scoffed in unison before they dispersed, each one walking away.
After that, I stayed comfortably seated next to Andrew, enjoying the food and drinks while those who couldn’t read the room didn’t dare come near me again.
As for Victoria, after hitting a wall with Andrew, she tried approaching other potential partners. But it was as if everyone had conspired to shut her out completely.
No one gave her the time of day. Even the business cards she handed out were tossed onto the
floor like trash.
It was probably the most humiliating moment of her professional life.
And then Lewis arrived.
Victoria, red–eyed and clearly distressed, went straight to him to complain. He spent some time

calming her down before he started walking toward me.
Andrew furrowed his brow and asked, “Want me to send him away?”
I shook my head.
“No need. I’d like to hear what he has to say. You go ahead. If I need anything, I’ll call you.”
Andrew got the message and walked off without hesitation.
Lewis took the seat across from me. His features were still as striking as ever, those sharp eyes
still gleaming like stars.
But his expression carried a tiredness he couldn’t hide. It seemed his company had indeed run into a lot of trouble lately.
“Emily,” he said softly, “it’s been a while.”
“Mm.”
Of course, he didn’t know I had seen him hanging around my family’s gate with gift bags, being so pushy, just last week. “So this is your choice now?” he asked.
I blinked. “What choice?”
“To be someone’s mistress.”
So that was it he had misunderstood my relationship with Andrew.
I raised a brow. “Hmm?”
He gave me a bitter smile, his eyes glinting with sarcasm.
“You gave up being Mrs. Carter just to become someone else’s secret lover? You think that’s
interesting?”
I shrugged and played along. “It’s not bad. Could be worse.”
His tone turned stern.
“Enough. That divorce agreement–we’ll just pretend I never saw it. Come back to me, you’re still
Mrs. Carter.”

I laughed aloud, honestly confused.
“What are you even talking about?”
He exhaled deeply.
“I get it. You’re trying to punish me, but don’t be childish. Trading your youth for a man’s
momentary affection—it’s meaningless. You won’t get anything from this. Mr. Johnson will
never leave his wife to marry you, so don’t waste your time.”
However, Mr. Johnson is Andrew Johnson.
I stayed quiet, waiting for him to continue.
“You left me, and I didn’t reach out. I just wanted you to taste a bit of hardship. I never imagined
you’d go to such extremes.
“Yes, what happened was my fault. But Victoria has poured her heart and soul into the company,
and taken on a ton of pressure. She’s the one who secured ninety percent of our projects. I need
her.
You should understand that, instead of clinging to Mr.Johnson just to get back at me. That’s
underhanded.”
It sounded like he was admitting his mistake.
But not once did he express regret about keeping both women at his side.
I gave a cold smile and said,
“There are a few things you’ve gotten wrong.”
“Oh?” he asked.
I picked up a fruit fork from the plate in front of me and twirled it between my fingers.
Then I said, clearly and slowly, “Most of the projects Victoria ‘secured‘ came from the Johnson
Group. And the person in charge of that group is my brother Andrew.”
Lewis frowned.
“That’s impossible. You don’t even share the same last name.

“In our family, we believe in equal surnames–Andrew has my dad’s last name, Johnson, and I have my mom’s, Walker. If you don’t believe me, I can call Andrew and Sophia over to confirm our
relationship.”
Lewis froze.
“So those projects Victoria signed… they were really yours?”
I smiled.
“Exactly. Andrew only helped out because I asked him to support his brother–in–law. But now
that I’m no longer married, there’s no reason for him to keep doing that.
Honestly, you’ve made a fortune off his generosity. But you’ve also caused him a lot of
headaches.”
His face darkened.
I continued,
“Blind expansion and cutting corners on product quality, constantly using Johnson Group’s
discounts to demand higher profits—if not for this divorce, who knows how many more of Andrew’s people would’ve been dragged down by you?”
Lewis pressed his lips together tightly.
“I left project coordination to Victoria. I didn’t know she…”
I didn’t care for his excuses. Instead, I opened a video on my phone and showed it to him.
In the clip, Victoria was seen entering a couple’s hotel, her arm hooked around a greasy, overweight man in his fifties. They were laughing together while his hands roamed freely over her body.
Lewis’s expression darkened completely.
I said calmly,
“You recognize him, don’t you? He’s a supplier from Everglow Global Group. I’m sure Victoria
really loves you. Personally, I could never go to such lengths for someone. But hey, treasure her while you can. I wish you both all the best.”
