The 48th-anniversary celebration of Firebird Group officially commenced at seven-thirty.
Around six o'clock, Finnegan set off, with Hailey escorting him to Firebird Hotel.
“Mr. Larkin, what a coincidence!”
As soon as they arrived and got out of the car in the parking lot, Lauren, who was dressed in a refreshing, dazzling ensemble, suddenly walked over.
Finnegan glanced at Lauren.
“Shouldn't you be ashamed, Ms. Gallagher?”
Firebird Hotel was not open to the public, since the venue was being used to host the 48th-anniversary celebration today,
On top of that, Lauren could not have been a guest of the Zimmermans.
It was evident that she was here, waiting for him.
With a charming smile, Lauren confessed, “I really can't hide anything from you, Mr. Larkin. I was, in fact, waiting for you. Could we perhaps have a word in private?”
She then pointed to an MPV parked not too far away.
Finnegan walked straight past her, declaring, “Not interested!”
“What's wrong, Mr. Larkin? Don't you have the guts to talk to me?”
Upon hearing this, Finnegan came to a halt.
Hailey, who was preparing to wait in the car, exclaimed, “What did you say?”
Finnegan slowly turned around with his eyes slightly narrowed. “What did you just say?”
Lauren lifted her snow-white neck and retorted, “I, a mere girl, am not afraid to be alone with you in such a confined space. Yet, you're the one who refused. Isn't that blatant cowardice?”
After stopping Hailey, who was about to speak, a hint of amusement flickered in Finnegan's eyes. “So, what's your definition of a proper man?”
“A man should fear nothing, and yet...”
Halfway through speaking, Lauren scoffed and shook her head.
Finnegan approached her, stopping just a foot away. He could already catch the faint scent of her perfume. “Has anyone ever told you,” he said, “that it's extremely dangerous to provoke a man in such a way?”
Lauren did not bother denying that she was being provocative. “So, do you have the guts to do it or not?”
“Well, you've brought this upon yourself!”
A hint of deviousness flashed in Finnegan's eyes as he abruptly lifted Lauren by the waist and headed toward the MPV.
Hailey couldn't help but widen her eyes, covering her mouth in surprise.
Is he going to beat Lauren at her own game?
Lauren, who had been lifted off the ground, finally came to her senses.
But in just a moment, she reached out and wrapped her arm around Finnegan's neck, saying, “It seems you are, after all, a man!”
“Don't worry, I'll show you just how much of a man I really am!”
A few minutes later, Hailey could see the MPV swaying a little.
However, due to the privacy film attached, Hailey could not see what was happening inside. She could only vaguely hear noises.
Upon listening more carefully, Hailey, who was quite experienced, immediately thought of something.
Her expression couldn't help but soften with sympathy as she muttered, “Lauren has really brought misfortune upon herself!”
Over ten minutes later, Finnegan, with a playful expression on his face, got out of the car and headed straight for the elevator.
Immediately after that, Lauren, with her clothes in disarray and her hair disheveled, jumped down. “Finnegan, you idiot! Hold still!”
Suddenly, a wave of nausea hit Lauren. Without a second thought, she stopped calling for Finnegan and ran to a nearby trash can to throw up.
Upon witnessing the scene, Hailey quickly started the car and stepped on the gas to leave, hoping to avoid becoming Lauren's punching bag later on.
After retching and finally managing to stand upright, Lauren realized that Finnegan had already disappeared.
She was so furious that she wanted to seek Finnegan out and confront him.
She had only taken a few steps when she stopped, having remembered what Frankie had said.
Finnegan furrowed his brows. “Casper sure has a big mouth!”
“Don't blame him,” said Josephine, hurriedly defending her brother. “He only mentioned it because I kept pressing him. Also, he only told me. He didn't even tell our mother.”
Finnegan did not want to discuss this issue.
He tried to withdraw his hand discreetly, only to find that Josephine was holding onto it very tightly.
A sense of helplessness swept over him as he said, “Josephine, could you please—”
Josephine, however, suddenly asked, “But how did you manage to do it? Surely, it must have cost a significant amount of money to hold shares in the Regi Group, right?”
Finnegan gave her a sideways glance as he began to feel even more helpless.
He then withdrew his hand with a gentle tug. “It's all right. It's a long story, though.”
Josephine stiffened. She hadn't expected Finnegan to abruptly withdraw his hand.
A wave of discomfort welled up in her heart as she bit her lip.
“Josephine, who is this?”
It was at this moment that a man, roughly in his thirties, approached. His eyes, vigilant and filled with hostility, were fixed on Finnegan.
Josephine furrowed her brows, seemingly displeased with this man. Yet, she still responded politely. “This is my...”
She had intended to introduce Finnegan as a friend. However, just as she was about to continue, Josephine suddenly stood up, pulling Finnegan with her. “This is my boyfriend, Finnegan Larkin. We were childhood sweethearts, and Finnegan lived right next door.”
Finnegan's mouth twitched fiercely. “Josephine?”
“Don't say anything,” whispered Josephine urgently in his ear. “This is my colleague, Tommy Bailey, who has been pursuing me relentlessly. Despite my numerous rejections, he won't give up. Please help me!”
Upon hearing Josephine's introduction of Finnegan, Tommy's face instantly turned sour.
His eyes were filled with hostility as he looked at Finnegan. “You're Josephine's boyfriend?”
At Bruce's birthday celebration, only the company's top executives were present. Finnegan and Bernice's engagement was just a simple meal between the two families, so Tommy did not recognize him.
Finnegan could only helplessly glance at Josephine, before nodding. “Yes!”
