Josephine was quite happy upon hearing Finnegan's response, even though she knew it was a lie.
However, Tommy's expression had become even more unpleasant.
Given the circumstances, however, he did not reveal too much.
Instead, Tommy stuck his hand out and said, “So you're Josephine's boyfriend. I thought she was lying to me about having a boyfriend before. My name is Tommy Bailey, the Sales Department Head at Firebird Group. I make about four hundred thousand annually.”
After a brief pause, he added, “Josephine is now the director of the third sales department, earning about a million annually. I suppose if you're her boyfriend, your income must be even higher, right?”
Having chosen to help Josephine, Finnegan naturally was not going to indulge Tommy.
He shook Tommy's hand and replied, “I'm doing fine. I own Jerome Medical Clinic.”
“Hahaha...” Tommy couldn't help but laugh, and his words were laced with sarcasm. “Listen, there might be things I don't know. But you're now claiming to be the owner of Jerome Medical Clinic? Is this some kind of joke? Is there anyone in Jadeborough who doesn't know that the owner of Jerome Medical Clinic is the renowned Dr. Magnussen?”
Josephine coldly took over the conversation and retorted, “Tommy, before you mock others, could you please do some research? It's not that hard to look up the representative of a company or a private entity, is it?”
Initially, she did not want to be so impolite, but seeing Tommy mock Finnegan made her upset.
Tommy immediately stiffened.
Could it really be true?
He pulled out his phone on the spot and logged onto a website specifically designed for business inquiries. He then entered the name “Jerome Medical Clinic.”
When he clicked on a page that listed Jerome Medical Clinic and confirmed the address was correct, he proceeded to access the site.
The name of the representative was highlighted in bold: Finnegan Larkin.
His face fell immediately as he exclaimed, “How can this be?”
With a casual smile, Finnegan said, “As such, my income is indeed higher than Josephine's. Making tens of millions a year is no big deal for me. Also, I own the property that Jerome Medical Clinic is in, and it's worth several hundred million!”
Tommy had intended to humiliate Finnegan but ended up humiliating himself instead.
The former was so embarrassed that he wished he could find a hole in the ground to crawl into.
Feeling too embarrassed to stay any longer, Tommy said, “You two carry on with your conversation. I'll go find someone else to chat with.”
He turned around dejectedly and left.
Josephine chuckled, “Let's see if he dares to pursue me in the future.”
“I can't say for certain.” Finnegan glanced sideways at his arm, which was being gripped so tightly by Josephine that it could very well lose its shape. “All I know is that if Bernie sees you holding me like this, I won't be able to explain things, and you might even lose your job!”
Josephine huffed. “We grew up together. I doubt Ms. Zimmerman would be so narrow-minded.”
Despite saying this, she eventually let go of Finnegan.
Finnegan leaned back and sat down. “Have you been doing well lately?”
Ever since Josephine confessed her feelings for him, the two had not been in contact.
Josephine sat down, contemplating whether to hold Finnegan's arm, but decided against it in the end. “Ms. Zimmerman promoted me,” she said. “My tasks are a bit more complex than before, but overall, it's much easier. It's not too bad!”
She paused, then winked at Finnegan. “How about you lend me a million?”
“Are you planning to buy a house?” he asked.
“No,” Josephine said. “What if I pay back all the money I owe Ms. Zimmerman in one go, and then come to work for you?”
Josephine clearly wanted to work for Regi Group.
Finnegan touched the bridge of his nose, mulling over the fact that he was in the process of searching for a trustworthy proxy shareholder.
Without a doubt, Josephine was one of the most trustworthy individuals he could think of.
Even if everyone else betrayed him, Josephine was not going to do that.
However, thinking of Josephine's feelings for him, Finnegan hesitated again. He didn't want Josephine to get the wrong impression.
Seeing Finnegan suddenly fall silent, Josephine could feel her heart constrict. She laughed and said, “Look at you, hesitating. I was just joking.”
Surely I can tell if this is a joke or not.
Does she think I upset her? Cindy was just looking for trouble where there was none, assuming that I had taken complete advantage of her.
“Okay, then,” replied Josephine.
However, as the three of them moved ahead, Tommy appeared once again.
His eyes widened like saucers as he exclaimed, “Ms. Zimmerman, who is this person?”
Josephine's expression changed as she silently cursed her ill luck.
In a company with so many people, Bernice didn't know Tommy. She merely responded politely and said, “This is my fiancé, Finnegan.”
“Ms. Zimmerman, he's a scoundrel! A deceiver.” Suddenly, Tommy's voice grew louder as he pointed at Josephine and exclaimed, “Just now, Josephine claimed he was her boyfriend, and they seemed very intimate. Have you been fooled by him, Ms. Zimmerman?”
Bernice stiffened immediately.
The people around them expressed amusement when they heard this.
This was far more interesting than the 48th-anniversary celebration of Firebird Group.
The domineering female CEO's fiancé turned out to be the boyfriend of one of her employees.
Was he trying to take advantage of them both? Or was it something else?
Josephine hurriedly explained, “Ms. Zimmerman, it's not what you think. What happened just now was just—”
“I understand.” Bernice regained her composure, cutting Josephine off. She asked Tommy, “So, are you Josephine's suitor?”
Tommy responded, “I was pursuing her, but I never expected her to be that kind of person, secretly deceiving both you and your fiancé.”
With a smile on his face, Finnegan calmly asked, “Darling, do you believe that?”
“Of course not.” Bernice turned around and called out to Cindy. “Process his resignation. Starting from tonight, he is no longer an employee of Firebird Group.”
Immediately, Tommy was taken aback. “Why are you doing this, Ms. Zimmerman?”
Bernice led Finnegan past him, saying, “Finnegan and Josephine have been as close as siblings since childhood. If they were meant to be together, they would have been a couple by now. You should reflect on how much you've annoyed Josephine to the point where she needs someone to be a shield! This company is not going to tolerate someone who has no self-awareness!”
