“I don't agree! I object!”
Cindy called for security to drag Tommy out directly. Regardless of how much he screamed and protested, it was all in vain.
“Ms. Zimmerman, it wasn't intentional on my part.” Josephine came over and sat down at a table near the main table, her face filled with unease. “Tommy kept pestering me despite my repeated rejections. Finnegan happened to arrive just then, and I lost my mind for a moment!”
“Did you really just lost your mind for a moment?” Bernice asked with a smile.
At her words, Josephine's expression stiffened. For a moment, she didn't know how to respond to that.
Of course, she did not lose her mind for a moment.
She just overlooked the possibility that Tommy would jump out from the back to expose her.
Bernice patted the back of her hand and said, “I was just teasing you. Although you and Finnegan are childhood friends, he only sees you as a sister. I know that all too well. Also, if such a situation arises again in the future, let me know about it. I'll help you resolve it.”
The underlying message was to stop using Finnegan as a shield, especially in such a setting.
Josephine nodded awkwardly. “I'm sorry. I almost made you the subject of ridicule.”
Bernice held Finnegan's hand tightly. “It's okay!”
As for Cindy, she glared at Finnegan fixedly, making no attempt to hide her anger.
Originally, Finnegan had intended to pretend that he didn't see anything.
But gradually, he began to feel uncomfortable all over. “Cin, how about we talk privately?”
Bernice turned to look at Cindy, “Cin, Finnegan has told me that he would never intentionally get someone drunk.”
“Get someone drunk?”
Cindy frowned, for her fury toward Finnegan wasn't because he had gotten her drunk.
Fearing that she might say something inappropriate, Finnegan quickly rose to his feet and grabbed her hand. “Forget it. Let's go outside and talk for a bit.”
“Let go of me. There's nothing to talk about.”
However, Finnegan didn't let go of Cindy. Instead, he led her right out the side back door.
Bernice watched them disappear through the door. Then, she withdrew her gaze and put her smile away. She turned to Josephine. “After the celebration, I plan to expand the company's market in Bellridge. I intend to have you take on the role of general manager of the branch office. Are you interested?”
Josephine abruptly looked up. “Ms. Zimmerman?”
If it were in the past, Josephine would have naturally agreed as it was a rare opportunity.
But now, a sense aversion lingered within her.
She could discern Bernice's intention to keep her away from Jadeborough.
Bernice smiled and said, “Take your time and think about it. There's no hurry.”
“Sure!”
Meanwhile, Finnegan pulled Cindy into the emergency stairwell.
The latter rained her fists on him emotionally. “Let go of me. Unhand me, you shameless b*stard!”
With a sense of helplessness, Finnegan said, “Can you please calm down so we can have a proper conversation?”
“There's nothing worthwhile to talk about, you scoundrel who robbed me of my innocence!”
Finnegan smiled bitterly. “What can I say to make you believe that I never laid a finger on you?”
“No matter what you say, I won't believe you. The blood was the best proof, and the pain was the best memory!” Cindy continued to hit Finnegan. “And I'm certain it happened. I still remember the scene. Hurry up and let go of me!”
Seeing her increasingly agitated state, Finnegan abruptly raised his hand.
“Are you going to hit me again?” Cindy barked.
Finnegan's descending palm stilled, and he sighed quietly. “Then, can you calm down for a bit?”
“No, I can't. I just—”
Couldn't you have asked me to calm down verbally, you b*stard? Why did you have to kiss me?
Wincing in pain, Finnegan shook his leg. “This woman is really unreasonable!”
But fortunately, she managed to recall it on her own, effectively resolving this troublesome issue.
Then, he made his way back behind her. Bruce and the others had already emerged and were sitting at a table with several key senior executives from the company.
Upon seeing Finnegan, Bruce gave a slight nod of acknowledgment before stepping onto the stage.
Taking the microphone handed over by the emcee, Bruce said, “Today is the 48th anniversary celebration of Firebird Group. I sincerely thank everyone for being here!”
He then bowed deeply, eliciting thunderous applause from the audience.
Once the applause had subsided a bit, he continued, “I still remember when I started Firebird Winery with just twenty thousand forty-eight years ago. It feels as if it were only yesterday. The memory is still so fresh. Back then, I never imagined that I would develop the small winery into a company one day, let alone envision it becoming a publicly listed company. Of course, all of this would not have been possible without the hard work and effort of everyone present...”
The speech lasted for over ten minutes.
Patting his stomach, Finnegan muttered under his breath, “Your grandfather is sharing his legend with everyone, huh, Darling?”
For over ten minutes, Bruce spoke about his own hard work and keen sense of judgment.
Bernice rolled her eyes at Finnegan. “Stop talking nonsense.”
At the same table, Queenie swept a cold glance over Finnegan. “What do you know?”
Finnegan's brows furrowed. Her hostility is a bit too intense!
At that point, Bruce had also finished his speech on the stage.
The subject took a turn.
“Additionally, I have four announcements to make today, paving the way for the future development of Firebird Group. Firstly, I've grown old. The future belongs to the young, so I've decided to step down as the director of Firebird Group, handing the reins over to the deputy chairman, Bishop Zimmerman. Secondly, Patrick is removed from his position as chairman. The deputy chairman, Bishop Zimmerman, will be succeeding him! Thirdly, Firebird Winery is the foundation of the company's establishment. Henceforth, Patrick will be serving the position of general manager. Fourthly, the company's CEO, Bernice Zimmerman, will collaborate with Patrick in managing Firebird Winery by serving as the deputy general manager. The position of CEO will be succeeded by Queenie Zimmerman!”
Finnegan, who had been waiting for Bruce to finish speaking to start eating, had a chilling look in his eyes.
That turn of events took him completely by surprise.
