The Mischievous Doctor (Finnegan and Nuthana) novel Chapter 441

That turn of events was not only unexpected for Finnegan, but even Bernice, Patrick, and Jennifer were also taken aback, their faces full of astonishment.

That announcement was different from what Bruce had initially said.

Bruce had previously said that the Zimmerman family and the company would be handed over to Bernice's family that day, so how did it end up all being handed over to Bishop now?

Moreover, Bruce also dumped the heavily indebted Firebird Winery onto Bernice's family.

With a cold expression, Finnegan glanced at Bruce, then turned his gaze toward the beaming Millicent and Bishop, who was preparing to take the stage.

Finally, when he looked at Queenie, he found that she too wore a look of astonishment.

Clearly, she was unaware of that matter.

Bruce deliberately avoided the gaze of Patrick's family and handed the microphone to Bishop. “Now, it's your turn to say a few words to everyone.”

Taking the microphone, Bishop cleared his throat. Then, he began to speak. “I am honored to take the helm during the 48th anniversary celebration of the group, and I am equally pleased with the trust the board of directors has placed in me. Therefore, I assure everyone here that I will definitely guide our company to greater success, ensuring a continuous increase in everyone's income.”

His speech was followed by some formalities. Then, amidst a round of applause, Bishop assisted Bruce off the stage.

Finnegan said in a deep voice, “Darling?”

He was finding it a bit hard to hold back.

Bruce had completely forgotten about the promise he had made to him.

Bernice firmly grasped Finnegan's hand, shaking her head in bitter disappointment.

Though unspoken, the message was clear. She was urging Finnegan to refrain from causing a commotion.

Otherwise, the event that day would turn into everyone's laughingstock, exposing the discord within the Zimmerman family for all to see.

Drawing a deep breath, Finnegan rose to his feet. “But I can't sit still anymore!”

Casting a cold glance at Bruce, Finnegan departed immediately, his expression icy.

Bruce narrowed his eyes, smiling as he said to the several executives at his table, “I'll step out for a bit. You guys go ahead and eat.”

After Finnegan had sat outside for a while, Bruce followed him out.

He gestured for the subordinates following him to leave, then sat down opposite Finnegan. “Do you think I'm untrustworthy?”

Finnegan sneered, “You're not just untrustworthy. You've completely turned against us!”

If Finnegan had known that Bruce would do such a thing upon waking up, he would have made sure the latter never woke up again in his lifetime.

Bruce chuckled. “Finnegan, you promised me you wouldn't tell anyone that Patrick and Bishop are half-brothers, and you wouldn't meddle in the affairs of the Zimmerman family. But did you keep your word?”

“Am I supposed to just stand by while they bully my wife and her family?”

“Still, that's a family conflict, isn't it?”

In other words, whatever the outcome of the dispute between the family led by Millicent and Bishop, and Patrick's family, it was all a matter of their own affairs.

Finnegan, as an outsider, should not have interfered!

“Bruce!” Finnegan sneered coldly. “It seems that even though that old hag has aged, her manipulation still has some influence.”

Finnegan didn't believe Bruce's sudden change in stance that day had nothing to do with Millicent.

Bruce neither admitted nor denied it. “At his age, Bishop had to experience his wife's betrayal and the shock of his son not being his biological child. As a father, I can't let him be disheartened anymore, or else he will break down.”

Finnegan roared, “Isn't Mr. Patrick your son too? Have you been fair to both sides?”

The net assets were handed over to Bishop, while the burdensome debts were left to Patrick.

Gradually, his laughter became laced with mockery. “Bruce, you really are quite the schemer!” He handed over the net assets of the family to Bernice while letting Bernice and her family handle the debts. It's blatantly obvious that he's certain I'll help Bernice's family. In other words, Bruce not only wishes for Bishop's well-being, but also for Patrick's. He's regarding me as the chess piece that will bring glory to the Zimmerman family.

However, her mood was still quite good when she recalled what had happened that night. “It's all right. It doesn't matter how you treat me. Just remember that from now on, Firebird Winery will be your and your father's responsibility. You must continue to work hard as you have these past few years to ensure its profitability!”

As she spoke, she slapped her own thigh. “How could I forget? By tomorrow, Firebird Winery will be divested, with your father taking over as the representative. Even if I didn't mention it, you and your father would still have to work hard!”

It was clear that she had come to show off, which irritated Bernice to the point that she felt a lump forming in her throat.

Cindy couldn't bear to see Bernice being wronged, so she spoke up. “Old Mrs. Zimmerman, aren't you going a bit too far?”

Millicent glared at Cindy. “What are you meddling in for? What right do you, an outsider, have to comment on our family's affairs? If you don't want to work, you can resign tomorrow!”

“Fine! I'll resign!” Displeased by the sight of Millicent's despicable demeanor before her, Cindy firmly grabbed Bernice's hand. “Let's go.”

Bernice hesitated.

Cindy said, “Let's go. Are we staying here to admire others' success? Besides, as long as Mr. and Mrs. Zimmerman are here, it's fine.”

Seeing Patrick and Jennifer forcing smiles despite their discomfort, Bernice felt a pang of sorrow. She stood up and said, “Grandma, I'll take my leave now.”

Hesitant, Josephine got to her feet and followed.

Millicent chuckled coldly and muttered, “You're still too young to compete with me.”

Queenie, who had been reticent that evening, asked in an undertone, “Grandma, how did you persuade my grandpa to agree?”

With a mysterious smile, Millicent replied in a low voice, “This time, it wasn't entirely my idea to have your grandpa act this way. Your grandpa himself also felt that this arrangement would maximize the benefits. Both your dad's and your uncle's families could reap the greatest benefits!”

Upon hearing that, Queenie pondered for a moment and then understood everything.

She couldn't help but admire Bruce's astute and cunning strategies. Grandpa is planning to use Finnegan's connections to help prosper another branch of the Zimmerman family! But will Finnegan let this matter slide just like that?

Thinking about Finnegan's personality and tactics, Queenie suddenly felt a sense of unease.
