The Pack's Daughter (Aysel and Magnus) novel Chapter 100

**Midnight Letters by Daniel Crowe**

**Chapter 100**

In the dim light of the room, Agnes turned toward Magnus, her eyes filled with a mix of hope and desperation that made her heart race.

“If Sister-in-law forgives me,” she ventured cautiously, her voice trembling slightly, “will you… case your claws this once?”

The words hung in the air, heavy with the weight of her aspirations. She had clawed her way into the fiercely competitive entertainment industry, and the thought of her dreams withering before they even had a chance to bloom filled her with dread.

Magnus’s face remained an inscrutable mask, his indifference almost palpable. To him, severing her access to resources had never been a personal vendetta; it was merely a strategic maneuver to ensure that no one could exploit his name—or, even worse, invoke the title of his future mate to stir up chaos.

Why waste precious breath on explanations?

In the world of wolves, actions were the only language that truly mattered.

Once the lines were drawn, outsiders would understand precisely what boundaries had been crossed.

And if Agnes were aware of the mercy he had already extended—merely due to his respect for Giovanna—she would have cried out in indignation.

For years, Agnes had admired Magnus from afar, fully aware of the ruthless reputation that surrounded the Shadowbane Alpha. Courage had never been her strong suit; the only time she had acted on impulse was when she had heard whispers of the extravagant birthday banquet that had sent ripples through the upper echelons of the packs across the continent.

In a moment of reckless heat, she had attempted to wield the rumor of a childhood betrothal as a weapon to drive away the woman who stood at his side.

Yet, she barely managed three sentences before Magnus had silenced her so thoroughly that her wolf curled up inside her, cowering in fear.

In public, she was always careful—perhaps too careful to even admit that she knew Magnus Sanchez.

Finally, Magnus broke the silence, his voice cool and unwavering.

“The resources you lost were a consequence of your actions. They will not be restored. However, if you successfully complete the task that Sister-in-law sets for you, I will grant you something else in return.”

In an instant, Agnes’s gloomy demeanor transformed, her face lighting up with renewed hope. Her ears perked up as if she were a pup eagerly awaiting a command.

“I can do it!” she exclaimed, almost yipping with enthusiasm. “I’ll complete it, I swear!”

Her gaze darted to Aysel Vale, her eyes sparkling with determination, reminiscent of a young pup waiting for direction from the Luna.

Aysel, for her part, did not harbor any particular dislike for Agnes.

During their first meeting, the girl had been proud, yes, but she hadn’t resorted to insults or gone wild. Instead, she had acted more like a spoiled wolf pup, lashing out from a place of insecurity.

And the tears she had shed… Aysel had to concede that they were genuinely pitiful.

This time, at least, there was a sincerity in Agnes’s attitude that was hard to ignore.

“You’ve been trained by Master Giovanna,” Aysel inquired, her tone inquisitive, “so how is it that I’ve never heard of you before?”

Agnes scratched her cheek, a hint of embarrassment creeping into her expression.

“My aunt mentioned that since we’re related by blood, she could provide me with private guidance… but making me her publicly acknowledged disciple might tarnish her name.”

In reality, Giovanna had flatly refused to allow Agnes to use her name—just as she had denied her the use of Magnus’s.

This was partly due to Agnes’s current level of talent.

And partly out of a sense of fairness.

Agnes’s training and examinations had always been kept under wraps; almost no one was aware of the connection they shared.
