The Pack's Daughter (Aysel and Magnus) novel Chapter 187

**Midnight Letters by Daniel Crowe**
**Chapter 187**

**Aysel’s POV**

Dariusz and Damon shared a history steeped in camaraderie; they were allies forged through trials and tribulations. So, when the news of the upcoming trip reached my ears, it came as no surprise that Dariusz insisted on being part of it. Back in those days, he was an integral cog in the machinery of Damon’s ambitious project, and given the close bond they shared, Damon found it impossible to turn him down. What had initially been envisioned as a simple excursion for just the two of them quickly morphed into a larger gathering—yet I hadn’t anticipated Dariusz’s decision to bring along Celestine.

The so-called “distraction” Dariusz had in mind did little to distract anyone at all. Instead, it became a heavy burden for both Damon and me, as we found ourselves living under the oppressive shadow of a death that loomed over us.

Dariusz played his role with an ease that was almost unsettling. Even Skylar, who had never concealed her disdain for Celestine, found herself unable to voice a single word of criticism against him. The only point of contention anyone could find was his baffling choice in romantic partners—falling for that venomous creature, Celestine Ward.

That fateful day unfolded in a whirlwind of chaos. Dariusz heroically saved not only his mate, Celestine, but also several others, before finally collapsing under the weight of his own efforts while attempting to rescue Damon. In the aftermath, he was hailed as a hero, a saint among men, for his selfless acts.

As time passed, the Blackwood Pack began to contemplate replacing their daughter-in-law, while the Moonvale Pack fretted over Celestine’s precarious safety. The pressure mounted on Damon, urging him to adopt Dariusz’s role and take responsibility for Celestine’s fragile existence. Anyone privy to the situation was left with no grounds to accuse him of wrongdoing. Only I remained shackled by gratitude, my jealousy and protests muted by the heavy chains of morality.

And then there was Celestine, driven to the brink of despair, making repeated attempts to end her own life. My own family held me accountable for the tempest that had set off the sea expedition. The relationships between our Packs grew icy once more, leaving me to endure more than I could ever count, hiding from the Moonvale Pack while still becoming ensnared in their intricate schemes.

And then… that wretched male hadn’t even perished.

Skylar had long since abandoned belief in coincidences. Her first instinct was to cast suspicion on Celestine. Something felt fundamentally wrong—back in high school, Celestine had relentlessly pursued Damon. How could she so suddenly redirect her affections toward a man of such mediocre standing, apart from his own merits? Celestine’s inherently self-serving nature didn’t lend itself to a love so untainted.
