The Pack's Daughter (Aysel and Magnus) novel Chapter 35

**Midnight Letters by Daniel Crowe**
**Chapter 35**

In a dimly lit room, Celestine’s voice flowed like a gentle stream, wrapping around Remus like silk encasing a sharp blade. “Father, please don’t be upset. I know Knox. If Aysel offers a sincere apology, the Ironhowl Pack will likely let this go.”

Though her tone was soothing, a flicker of triumph danced in her eyes, hinting at a deeper satisfaction beneath her calm exterior.

Remus let out a weary sigh, his gaze softening as he looked at Celestine, feeling a swell of paternal affection. “You see, Aysel? If only you possessed half the wisdom your sister has, I might be granted an extra decade of life.”

Aysel’s laughter cut through the air, sharp and devoid of humor. “You know he’s in the ward, yet you didn’t think to inquire if I was hurt? Or is your sense of justice reserved solely for outsiders?”

Remus’s brow furrowed, irritation creeping into his voice. “Don’t twist my words, girl. I heard what transpired. You were at that tavern again, embroiled in trouble with a pack of unruly males. You can’t keep frequenting those dens of filth.”

“Celestine mentioned that, didn’t she?” Aysel replied with a lazy drawl. “And you believed her without question?”

“Enough!” Remus’s voice rose, sharp as a crack of thunder. “Your sister speaks out of concern for your well-being. She defends you even when you make it nearly impossible.”

“Defends?” Aysel’s wolf stirred within her, her voice dropping to a low growl, laced with danger. “Knox Draven yanked me into a booth with his pack of miscreants and insisted I drink with them. He thought the daughter of Moonvale’s Alpha would simply sit back and serve his drinks. So yes, I struck him. Consider yourself fortunate I didn’t rip out his throat.”

An oppressive silence settled over the room, sharp as frost on a winter’s morning.

Remus’s jaw clenched, his dominance pulsing faintly in the air—an instinctive effort to rein her in. But Aysel was no longer a cub. Her wolf bristled in defiance, calm and resolute, pushing back against his aura until it shattered like waves crashing against stone.

He exhaled slowly, the weight of the moment pressing down on him. “Is that truly what happened?”

Aysel’s smirk widened, a glimmer of mischief in her eyes. “Why, does that make you proud? Or are you pondering if the great Alpha Remus has sunk so low that his blood can be mistaken for a barmaid’s?”

Remus’s roar echoed through the room, shaking the very walls. “Watch your tongue, girl!”

Yet, she could sense the subtle shift in his breathing, the seeds of doubt creeping into his mind. Celestine’s hands stilled mid-pour, her delicate mask tightening, as if sensing the rising tension.
