up and
Sloane and her Blackhawk teammates had arrived early, busy with final equipment checks and last–minute strategy discussions.
Lucas sat in the front row of the audience, his eyes never leaving Sloane.
Today, she wore a sleek team uniform; her long hair was tied up in a high ponytail, giving her a sharp, polished look.
“Hey, who’s that pretty girl on Blackhawk? I don’t remember seeing her before,” someone in the audience whispered.
“I know, I know,” a girl next to them jumped into the conversation excitedly. “Her name’s Sloane. She’s a new recruit this year and a freshman at Stonebridge.”
“No way, she’s a freshman? No wonder she looks so young. If she made it into Blackhawk as a freshman, she must be really good.”
Lucas heard the compliments drifting through the crowd; the corners of his lips curled slightly as a quiet, proud smile surfaced.
Once the match began, both teams quickly found their rhythm.
Sloane, the team’s core player, was in charge of the most critical offensive and defensive roles.
Her movements were smooth and fluid; her mind, sharp and agile. She always managed to spot weaknesses in the opposing team’s formation and exploit them. Their opponents weren’t easy to beat–well–prepared, tightly coordinated–but the game went back and forth, the score neck and neck.
In the first round, Blackhawk took the lead thanks to Sloane’s spot–on calls and her teammates‘
seamless coordination.
But the opposing team didn’t lose their composure. Instead, they adjusted their strategy in the second round and capitalized on a slip–up by Blackhawk, evening the score. It was now 1-1; the match had entered a fever pitch.
The third round was the decider. Both teams brought out everything they had.

Right out of the gate, the opposing team launched a fierce, sudden assault, catching Blackhawk off guard.
Sloane stayed cool under pressure and quickly pivoted their tactics, helping her team regain their footing. Her movements grew even faster; her expression, laser–focused. It was as if she had become one with the game itself.
Midway through the round, the opposing team laid a highly covert trap that nearly caught Blackhawk.
But in that crucial moment, Sloane relied on her razor–sharp instincts and deep experience to see through their ploy. She reacted fast, her response precise and decisive. Not only did she dismantle the trap, she launched a swift counterattack and scored the decisive point.
The audience erupted into applause and cheers. Lucas‘ lips lifted into a faint smile, his eyes full of pride.
He knew Sloane’s potential went far beyond this. Her skills had sharpened with every match.
After the game, Sloane and her teammates threw their arms around each other, celebrating a hard–fought victory.
Her face glowed with joy; her eyes sparkled with the light of triumph. Lucas stood up, watching her from afar as pride and satisfaction swelled quietly in his chest.
As Sloane came down from the stage, her eyes gleaming, she ran straight toward Lucas and threw herself into his arms, wrapping him in a tight embrace.
“Lucas, we won!” she said, breathless with excitement.
Lucas hadn’t expected her to rush over and hug him like that; he froze on the spot.
By the time he snapped out of it and reached out to hug her back, Sloane had already pulled
away.
He looked down at his now–empty arms, a faint sense of loss washing over him.
But when he looked up again and saw her beaming like an overjoyed kid, his heart turned to
absolute mush.
