Chapter 360 The Woman I Love
Lu+10 Free Coins cas looked at her stubborn expression and finally let out a long sigh as he helped her sit up. This-this unyielding will-was the very reason he loved Sloane.
In the end, he couldn’t fight her will. He carefully settled her into the wheelchair, then dropped to one knee to slip her arms into a jacket, his movements tender, as though she were made of glass.
In the hallway, the staff froze when they saw Sloane awake. Eyes filled with tears, some nurses wiped them away, others folded their hands together. Without anyone speaking, they all stepped aside to clear a path for her.
The first to greet her was the old soldier from bed four. The moment he saw her, he struggled to rise and salute, but Lucas gently pressed him back down.
“Dr. Rivers…” The man’s voice cracked as he raised a clenched fist to show his strength. “Look-after taking the medicine you created, I’m completely healed.”
Sloane
gave him a faint, tired smile and reached out to check his pulse. Her right hand was too weak, but her left fingertips still found the steady rhythm beneath his skin.
“Much stronger now,” she said softly. “With a little more recovery, you’ll be discharged in a couple of weeks.”
At every bed she visited, patients rushed to show their progress. One lifted his hand to prove his fingers could move again. Another drew a deep breath to demonstrate his lungs had cleared. A little girl from bed six even jumped down and spun in a circle right in front of her.
“Ms. Rivers, I’m going to be a doctor too!” the girl declared with a bright grin. “I want to be just like you.”
Watching it all, Lucas stood behind the chair, his throat tight. He noticed the way Sloane’s left hand trembled, the sweat gathering at her hairline. She was barely holding herself together, yet she refused to stop until she had seen every patient herself.
By the time they returned to her room, Sloane was spent. She slumped in the wheelchair, too weak to lift her head. Lucas scooped her up without a word, laying her gently on the bed. His touch was careful, but his tone left no room for argument.
“That’s enough. You’re done for today.” His voice was hoarse as he pulled the blanket over her. “What you need now is rest.”
She studied his weary face, then whispered, “These ten days… you stayed here the whole time, didn’t you?”
Lucas nodded silently, his thumb tracing the faint needle marks on her wrist.
“What about the company?” she asked.
“The vice president’s handling it,” he said shortly, his eyes never leaving her pale face.
A thought struck her suddenly. “The patients… Did any of them show lasting damage? Especially neurological-”
Her question was cut off when Lucas leaned down and kissed her. The kiss was gentle, reverent, and filled

“Right now,” he murmured against her forehead, voice low and rough, “can you think about yourself for
once?”
Sloane’s lashes trembled. A faint smile curved her lips. She tilted her head and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. “Okay.”
That single word made his throat tighten. He pulled her closer, holding her with a mix of restraint and desperation, terrified of pressing too hard. Against his chest, she could feel his heartbeat-fast, heavy, unrelenting.
He rose and poured her a glass of warm water, then took the pills the doctors had prepared. Sliding an arm behind her neck, he lifted her gently into his arms and fed her small sips, patient and deliberate.
Sloane tried to take the cup herself, but her right arm was too weak, and her left hand trembled too much. Lucas caught the faint protest in her eyes and said softly, “Don’t push yourself. Let me take care of you.”
