“Enough!” Helen’s sharp voice cut her off. “You must do as I say-stay away from her.”

Of course, Samantha had no intention of listening; but faced with such firmness, she could only nod on the surface. “I know.”
When Sloane received Conor’s encrypted message, her fingertip paused lightly on the phone screen. The words were brief: “The time has come. Wait for the net to close.”
A cold gleam flickered in her eyes; the faintest curve tugged at her lips. It’s time to settle accounts.
Her slender finger tapped the screen again, sending Helen a message: “Meet me at the garden at eight tonight. I have something important to tell you.”
She had crafted the message to be vague on purpose, ensuring Helen would come. By nightfall, Sloane stood at the floor-to-ceiling window of her room, watching as Helen, visibly uneasy, made her way toward the garden.
Inside the pavilion, Samantha tugged coyly at Adrian’s sleeve. “Adrian, my face itches so much; take a look for me…”
Helen had nearly reached the pavilion when she froze at the sound of her daughter’s flirtatious tone.
In the moonlight, she saw Samantha nestled against Adrian’s chest, her red lips hovering just shy of his jaw.
“Sammy, don’t…” Adrian’s voice was hoarse, but he made no move to push her away.
“What’s there to be afraid of? No one’s watching…” Samantha’s hand slipped under his shirt. “Don’t you like me like this, Adrian?”

Samantha clutched her cheek, her glare vicious. “We’re not blood-related-why can’t we be together?”
Adrian quickly caught her arm. “Sammy, stop provoking Mom…”

Helen’s face went ghostly pale; she swayed on her feet. Her trembling hand pointed at Samantha. “What…

“Get away!” Helen shoved him aside, her eyes filled with despair and fury. “Do you even know what you’re doing? You’re brother and sister!”
Samantha let out a derisive laugh. “Mom, you must be senile. I switched places with Sloane; Sloane’s your real daughter.”
“You don’t know what you’re talking about, you…” In her agitation, Helen nearly blurted out the truth; but as the words reached her lips, they vanished, strangled before she could speak.
“What’s going on here?” Marshall’s voice cut through the night.
His face was grim as he strode into the pavilion. His gaze swept over the scene, lingering on Samantha’s disheveled neckline and Adrian’s open shirt. His expression darkened to something terrifying.
“Honey…” Helen clutched his sleeve with shaking hands. “They…”
