Seeing how anxious Sloane was about his aunt, Shawn couldn’t help glancing at her a few more times before speaking in a low voice. “No. When my aunt went missing, my uncle rushed over right away; but neither of them have been heard from since.”
Sloane’s heart sank. Lucas slipped an arm gently around her shoulders. “Don’t worry,” he said, his voice calm and steady. “They’re going to be fine.”
Sensing the heavy mood settling in, Jaime scratched his head and quickly tried to shift the topic. “Now’s not the time to dwell on that. Shawn, you should call home right now. Whatever plan Charlie’s got, it’ll fall apart the second your family knows you’re alive.”
“Right. I’ll call my dad.” Shawn took Jaime’s phone and punched in the number, pressing it to his ear.
“Dad!” He pushed himself up from the bed, his voice tight with emotion. “It’s me, it’s Shawn!”
“Shawn, you’re alive!” On the other end, his father, Emir, sounded both stunned and overjoyed. “Where are you? Your grandfather collapsed when he heard you’d been killed. He’s in critical condition!”
Shawn’s face went pale. “Grandpa’s sick? How could that happen?” He clutched the phone, his voice trembling. “Dad, I’m at Jaime’s private villa. There’s something wrong with Charlie–he might be the one behind all of this. You have to stay away from him!”
“Charlie?” Emir’s tone dropped, sharp with alarm. “He came here with the police, said you were murdered by robbers. When your grandfather heard it, he fell ill. Charlie’s leading an investigation into your death-”
“Dad, don’t believe him. I’m coming home right now!” Shawn hung up before his father could reply.
Sloane, having caught snippets of the conversation, looked worried. “What happened?”
Shawn’s grip tightened around the phone. His voice was hoarse. “My grandfather’s sick. I have to get home right now…”
Lucas’s expression hardened. He strode to the window and lifted the curtain just enough to peek outside. His tone turned cold. “Too late. We’re surrounded.”
Jaime darted over to check for himself. Sure enough, several police cars sat silently around the
villa.

Armed officers were taking positions; and at the center of it all stood Charlie–immaculate in a suit, his gold–rimmed glasses glinting. The look in his eyes was as cold and venomous as a snake’s while an officer beside him murmured a report.
“That bastard found us this fast?” Jaime hissed, teeth clenched. He spun toward the drawer to grab his gun.
Shawn rushed over to stop him. “No! We can’t fight them–they’re police. Let me talk to them, I’ll explain everything.”
Before anyone could stop him, Shawn pushed open the window and stepped into view. Lucas tried to pull him back, but it was too late; he could only move along the wall to cover him.
“Charlie!” Shawn shouted from the steps. “What the heck do you think you’re doing?”
Charlie’s pupils constricted the instant he saw Shawn alive–but within seconds, his expression smoothed into a false, polished smile. “Mr. Shawn? What an unexpected surprise… I was under the impression you were dead.” He turned to the officer beside him. “Looks like we’ve got an impostor pretending to be the Oliver family’s son. Dangerous business.”
“Cut if off!” Jaime burst out, storming forward. “You’re lying!”
Charlie didn’t flinch. With calm precision, he pulled out a document and held it up for everyone to see. His voice rang out, firm and commanding.
“According to the official police report, Shawn Oliver was confirmed dead from poisoning. The body was identified and the case closed. Which means this ‘Shawn‘ is either an impostor or someone’s puppet, dragged back from the grave by something that should have stayed buried.”
