The Rejected True Heiress (Liora) novel Chapter 86

Liora

The dorm was finally quiet.

Mia had fallen asleep with one leg dangling off the edge of her bed, her hair still wet from a shower and fanning over her pillow like some halo. I sat at my desk with the lamp turned low, staring at the book I was more then engrossed in, even if my thoughts fought to take me back through the night.

Every time I blinked I saw Callum’s face when I walked away, confused, maybe hurt, but mostly… watching.

I pressed the heel of my hand to my eye and told myself to stop. He was engaged. Officially. To the title he’s always wanted.

Or not.

I almost smirked. What a sick game.

That was when the first pebble hit the glass.

A sharp tap, then another.

At first, I thought it was a branch knocking in the wind, but then it came again, deliberate, like a finger on the pane.

I groaned quietly. This wasn’t the first.

Callum.

If he had the audacity to show up at my window after everything, I was going to make him regret it.

I pushed the window open fast, words ready to cut.

“You can’t just—”

I froze, my face scrunchign against the sight.

It… wasn’t Callum.

Zane stood on the grass below, a grin spreading across his face like he had all the time in the world. The moonlight caught on his blonde hair, now mussed and sticking up in places as if he’d been dragged backward through the night.

His suit, the same one he’d worn to the dance, looked like it had survived a brawl: the jacket hung open, one sleeve torn near the cuff, and there was a faint smear of something dark across his shirt like he’d wiped a hand there after a fight. Even his tie was gone, hanging instead from his pocket like an afterthought.

He smirked up at me, sharp-jawed and utterly unbothered. “Hi, Princess,” he cupped his mouth. “Let down your hair!”
