As soon as the secretary’s voice floated into the room, announcing Maya and Craig’s arrival, a wave of tension surged through me. Every muscle in my body tightened instinctively, like a coiled spring ready to snap.

I quickly glanced at Scott, and the fury etched on his face was unmistakable. His expression was dark, a storm brewing just beneath the surface. “Do they have an appointment?” he demanded, his voice low and clipped.

“No, sir,” came the secretary’s timid reply.

“Then tell them I’m fully booked for the entire month,” he instructed, his tone leaving no room for argument. “If they want to meet with me, they can send an email for an appointment after that.”

The secretary nodded softly, her voice barely above a whisper as she acknowledged his command, then closed the door with a soft click that echoed in the silence.

A rush of relief washed over me, and I exhaled sharply, feeling as though I had been holding my breath for an eternity. My gaze dropped to my hands, resting nervously in my lap, the weight of the moment still pressing heavily on my chest.

Troy, ever the observer, chuckled lightly. “Out of all the candidates Phoenix Mall has shortlisted to open stores, those two are the most habitually late,” he remarked, shaking his head in disbelief. “Timelines? Completely disregarded. Rules? Tossed aside. It’s pure chaos. They even had a spat with another candidate over space allocation.”

Scott let out a long, weary sigh. “I’ve had more than enough of their antics. If they breach any clause, sub-clause, or even the sub-sub-clause of our agreement,” he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm, “let them know the contract is null and void.”

Troy rose from his seat, snapping his laptop shut with a decisive click under one arm. “Consider it done. I’m already keeping a watchful eye on them,” he replied confidently. As he made his way to the door, he turned back to me, a playful glint in his eye. “Are you coming?”

Scott’s voice cut through the air, firm and authoritative. “I have urgent work with her.”

Troy’s smile morphed into a mockingly innocent expression. “Urgent. Of course,” he said, feigning surprise as he slipped out and gently closed the door behind him.

Scott sauntered around the desk, his movements casual yet purposeful, coming to a halt directly in front of me. He leaned against the edge, arms crossed, and when those dark, intense eyes locked onto mine, my stomach twisted in a delightful knot.

“So,” he murmured, tilting his head slightly, “this is a… pimple with a pulse?”

A rush of heat flooded my neck and cheeks. “It is not,” I stammered, mortified as the memories of last night surged back—how I had savored him, how I had taken him into my mouth as if he were the sweetest candy.

His expression shifted, darkening with a hint of mischief. “Would you like a repeat,” he asked, his voice low and sultry, “of what you were so fond of last night?”

I didn’t intend to stare; I swear I didn’t. But my gaze betrayed me, drifting toward his zipper, where I could see the unmistakable outline of his growing desire. Heat pooled low in my belly, and my fingers curled involuntarily, yearning to reach out and touch him. Without thinking, I instinctively moved closer, but before I could make contact, his hand shot out, catching my wrist midair.

“Ah, Bella,” he scolded softly, his voice laced with a teasing edge, “that’s quite a bold choice for office hours.” His thumb pressed gently against my pulse, sending shivers down my spine. “I know you want me, but now you’re in for a punishment.”

Punishment. The word sent a thrill through me, igniting a fire I couldn’t ignore. “Spanking?” I blurted out, my heart racing as mortification washed over me. I wanted the floor to open up and swallow me whole. “I mean—”

He grinned wickedly, clearly enjoying my embarrassment, and it did deliciously wicked things to my insides. “Noted,” he replied, a delightful blend of threat and pleasure in his voice. “I knew you liked that. But not today. I have other plans for your… correction.” His eyes sparkled with mischief. “Just wait for it.”

Then, much to my irritation, he released my wrist and pushed off the desk, strolling back to his chair as if he hadn’t just ignited every nerve ending in my body. “You may go,” he said matter-of-factly, as if he hadn’t just turned my world upside down, and returned to his computer with a nonchalance that made my head spin.

I clenched my fists, fighting the urge to say something foolish. How dare he act so casually after what had just transpired? He had the audacity to focus on his emails as if nothing had happened.
