The Secret Heirs of the Lycan King (by Misha K) novel Chapter 80

**When Midnight Winds Carry Secrets Toward Worlds Yet Unknown**
**Chapter 80**

**Bella**

I had never witnessed a man disintegrate as swiftly as Joseph Diaz did when Elder Drosna, her voice resonating with authority, declared she had personally witnessed the amendment to the treaty he so confidently claimed to understand.

The color drained from his face, leaving him ashen, and for a moment, his mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water, struggling to articulate a response. Finally, he stammered out a feeble argument. “Bringing a human into a werewolf pack is still a threat. No one knows about that amendment! It’s not public.” His eyes flickered towards me, brimming with suspicion and barely concealed contempt.

“It is your fault that you don’t know about the amendment!” Elder Kevin snapped back, his voice sharp like a blade. “How do you expect others to know?”

Joseph faltered, retreating once more. My gaze shifted to Elder Cass, who looked as though he might be sick, his face pale and his expression twisted in discomfort. My thoughts spiraled back to the argument, the tension palpable in the air.

“Why,” Joseph demanded, his voice cracking under the strain, “should anyone believe she is his mate?”

Gasps rippled through the Council Hall, a wave of murmurs cascading like a sudden gust of wind. Scott remained motionless at first, his head turning slowly until his eyes locked onto Joseph’s. In that moment, the temperature in the room seemed to plummet, a chill sweeping through the air. Through our bond, I could feel Scott’s anger simmering, a storm ready to unleash. I squeezed his hand tightly, silently urging him to find calm amidst the chaos. Yet, his shoulders stiffened, his jaw clenched so tightly I feared he might crack his teeth. For a heartbeat, I was terrified he might lash out at Joseph. That was precisely what Joseph wanted.

The room fell into a profound silence, a stillness that felt almost sacred.

“You question why I brought her into my pack?” Scott said, his voice low and dangerous, each word dripping with restrained fury. “I didn’t. Bella came on her own. I never revealed the location of Silver Mane territory to her. She found it because she felt the mate bond. She risked her life. She came alone, seeking a pack full of wolves who could have killed her on sight. Why do you think a human would do that?” He inclined his head slightly, a warning etched in his posture. “Just because she believed I was in danger.”

The weight of his words settled heavily in the room, and I could feel the shocked stares boring into me, yet Scott remained unfazed, his focus unwaveringly locked on Joseph.

“Tell me, Joseph. What human in their right mind willingly walks into a wolf pack, especially during a Samhain celebration, unless something far greater than fear is guiding them? Explain that with your treaty pages.”

Joseph stood speechless, his lips quivering, as Tasha shifted uncomfortably behind him, her expression betraying her unease.

In that moment, clarity washed over me, and I realized that my actions toward Scott were not only reasonable but driven by an undeniable bond. My heart swelled with warmth, a sense of belonging igniting within me.

Scott’s gaze flickered to Tasha, his expression hardening further. “And perhaps,” he said in a voice as cold as ice, “you should remember why Bella came that night. She came because you were about to mark me after drugging me with Chainflower.” His voice rose sharply, each word laced with accusation. “You attempted to take a Lycan King by force? Had Bella not intervened, what you were planning would have been a grave violation of the goddess’ law.”
