The Silent Luna's Trial (Maple and Finn) novel Chapter 7

Alpha Rex’s words carried a sharp edge of blame, as though Luma Ruby were somehow responsible for everything that had unfolded. Yet, the reality was undeniable, stark and unyielding before my eyes.

No matter how much I might have wished to deceive myself, the strength to do so had long since drained away.

Finn collapsed heavily onto the floor, his body trembling as he struggled to crawl toward me. Desperately, he reached out and grasped my hand.

“Maple, I was wrong. I’m so sorry,” he whispered, his voice thick with regret.

I offered a faint, weary smile but remained silent. The silver needles embedded in my skin continued to emit a soft, steady glow, casting a pale light around us.

The memory projection flickered, revealing a scene from not long ago. I was shown bending down to pick up a letter that had slipped beneath the bedsheet. The envelope was plain, without any markings. Driven by curiosity, I carefully unfolded it.

What lay inside stunned both the younger version of myself in the memory and every pack member watching in silence.

The pages were filled with the raw, unfiltered passion of youthful infatuation.

The truth was painfully clear: Finn harbored a secret he had never dared to share with anyone.

His feelings for Hazel went far beyond the bounds of sibling affection.

He loved her—not as a brother should.

Though they were not related by blood, having grown up side by side, Finn had quietly chosen to stand by her, to protect her from harm at all costs.

From the very first day Hazel was brought back to the pack by Alpha Rex and Luna Ruby, Finn had held a deep, unspoken admiration for her.

The tenderness he had shown me was nothing but a façade.

Even though we were only a year apart, attended the same chemistry classes, trained together, and were fellow rogues accepted by the pack, Finn’s care for me was purely out of obligation.

Alpha Rex and Luna Ruby had tasked him with watching over me, so he often included me when he spent time with Hazel.

Hazel genuinely cared for me and had pushed hard for Finn and me to become mates, hoping to unite us.

Finn, who loved everything that mattered to Hazel and wanted nothing more than to see her happy, had gone along with the plan.

And I—foolishly—had allowed myself to be swept up in this illusion of love for years.

Though deep down I knew it was all a lie, I clung to those fragile fragments of happiness as if they were my lifeline.
