A heavy tension settled over everyone gathered in the room. The air inside the arena felt thick and suffocating, as if the very walls were holding their breath. Each person silently wished for a miracle, hoping against hope that I would somehow pull through the ordeal.
But reality, as it often is, proved to be harsh and unyielding. Miracles were scarce, and none came that day. Perhaps Hazel, that young girl, had also clung to the faint hope that her brother would show her mercy in the end. Yet, that mercy never arrived. She remained frozen forever in that endless summer, untouched by time.
A long, flat beep echoed from the machine monitoring my heart, and the electrocardiogram displayed a straight, unbroken line. My body was simply too exhausted, too worn out, needing a rest that would stretch on endlessly. It was the moment for this tragic charade to finally conclude.
“Hazel, I’m coming to find you,” I whispered softly, as if speaking aloud could bridge the distance between us.
In my mind’s eye, I saw her standing in a sun-drenched meadow, waving gently at me. I ran toward her, my heart aching with longing, and wrapped my arms around her tightly. “I missed you so much,” I told her, my voice trembling with emotion. Hand in hand, we began to walk forward together down the path that stretched out before us, bathed in golden light.
Nearby, the witch turned to Finn, her tone laden with sorrow and regret. “I’m sorry. I truly did everything I could,” she confessed quietly.
Finn collapsed, his sobs wracking his body like those of a child who has lost their most treasured possession. The crushing weight of his actions—the fact that he had pushed away the one person who loved him most—hit him with brutal force.
The live broadcast of this heartbreaking moment came to an end, but the story was far from over.
Using the evidence gathered from the memory judgment, pack enforcers swiftly mobilized to track down the fugitive, Bruno. Working in cooperation with officers from the Northern Territory, they eventually found him.
Bruno was caught off guard while partying in a strip club, completely unaware of the chaos unfolding around him—a stark example of Alpha Rex’s leniency toward his son.
Meanwhile, Luna Ruby could no longer bear to meet her husband’s gaze. The pain was too deep.
Chapter 8
The shock was overwhelming. Luna Ruby severed her mate bond with Alpha Rex, unable to endure the betrayal and grief any longer. The emotional devastation pushed her into a mental breakdown, and she was admitted to a psychiatric hospital.
Within those sterile walls, she muttered endlessly, her voice barely above a whisper: “Hazel, Hazel, my baby…” Sometimes tears would streak down her face as she repeated, “I’m sorry, Hazel. This is all my fault. I should never have brought you back to the pack…”
Her fragile mental state left her unable to communicate clearly, trapped in a haze of sorrow and guilt.
Meanwhile, the scandal shattered the Bloodmoon Pack’s once-illustrious reputation. Many members abandoned the pack, seeking refuge elsewhere. Overnight, the pack that had once been the most powerful in the werewolf realm was reduced to a shadow of its former self.
Finn, drowning in his own remorse and grief, remained oblivious to the pack’s collapse. He sought solace at the bottom of a bottle, losing himself in alcohol day after day.
He also received a summons from the werewolf tribunal. His treatment of me was deemed a crime, a violation of the sacred Alpha code, and he was forced to face the consequences.
Each day, Finn would make his way to the pack cemetery, sit beside my headstone, and drink until he was utterly wasted. Tears would flow freely as he begged for my forgiveness, wishing desperately that I might visit him in his dreams.
